Meet Hero Of The Story | “greeting cards for life’s sh!ttier moments”

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hero Of The Story and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hero of the Story, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
You know when you’re crying on the bathroom floor about your life, and you have that one friend who will crack a totally inappropriate yet perfectly timed joke that 100% gets you to laugh through your snotty tears?! We’re usually that friend.
Humor has always been a huge part of my life, so if I’m going to have a business… I’m definitely going to be funny about it 🙂
HERO OF THE STORY “greeting cards for life’s shittier moments” are meant to serve as reminders that you’re never alone on your journey, and that when times get tough people are here to support you by making you laugh or reminding you that you’re loved.
We make cards for the moments they don’t make cards for – breakups, divorce, egg freezing, mental health struggles, pregnancy-related issues like morning sickness or postpartum depression, job loss, menopause, and hard f-ing days in general. Because these are the moments when we need to laugh, these are the times when handwritten notes from loved ones can truly make a difference.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We make cards for the moments they don’t make cards for… because it’s on the darkest days that we most need supportive words – or a really big laugh 🙂
When sh*t hits the fan we’re here to support you with humorous + heartfelt messages. Because what happens to every hero in every story?! A bunch of terrible things like dragon attacks and dead ends with quicksand and lost loves and mental trickery… and when the hero is down-and-out who always appears to help save the day?! The funny sidekicks, fairy godmothers, and wise Yoda elders.
Our cards are not the hero of the story… you are 😉
We’re just the funny sidekick that’ll crack a few jokes to get you smiling during an unfunny situation, the fairy godmother who’ll sprinkle you with magic when you don’t believe, and the wise Yoda elder who’ll drop some sage old advice that reignites your purpose and strength to keep going.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always tell friends that what I love most about Los Angeles is that it’s a playground for creatives 🙂 Want to try stand up comedy?! We got you – if your friend wants to dabble in stand up go to an open mic night at Westside Comedy Theater, if they want to see celebs drop in go to The Comedy Store. Want to belt your heart out onstage?! We got you – if your friend needs loosing up with a few drinks before singing we love the camaraderie at Boardwalk 11 Gastropub & Karaoke. If your friend is a more “sing in the crowd” type of person opt for Troubadour or The Wiltern. Want to sell some of your handmade creations?! We got you – spending artsy & fabulous Sundays people watching & shopping at the Melrose Trading Post, and while you can grab bites there we do love the brunch scene at nearby Republique on S La Brea Ave. And of course since we’re a greeting card company who gets crazy high on unique expression of other crafty creatives we very much enjoy seeing all the handmade artisan items at pop-up shops/events happening all over the city! Makers Market in DTLA, Venice Love Fest in Mar Vista, and Bespoke Art Society’s popup at Malibu Wines & Beer are just a few of our favorites! Want to launch your own company?! We got you – with boss babe led workshops at Comfort Club and making inspired connections LA Female Founders networking events.
And finally – we are indeed west siders!! And an absolute must for us is visiting the beach. No mater what time of the year, we always find that brilliant conversations & catch ups happen during long strolls along the beach or boardwalk. Sunsets in the winter are particularly nice to enjoy stunningly colored skies with less crowds. But summer of course is a lovely time to play in the waves or pop into a Perry’s to grab cool drinks and watch locals play volleyball. Also the Santa Monica Farmer’s market on Wednesdays & Saturdays is not to be missed! Our perfect westside day of meals would be breakfast at Zinque Venice, lunch at Fig Tree, and dinner at Ospi Venice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to all of the extraordinarily beautiful people in my life who have helped inspire each and every one of these cards!! The ex who inspired a bunch of funny breakup/divorce jokes, the bestie who had the hardest most complicated pregnancy of all time and inspired the entire preggo collection, the other bestie with whom we constantly take turns pulling each other up out of sinkholes, wonderful male friends who always answer panicked phone calls, and dear female friends who we’ve driven to egg freezing appointments or learned the term “perimenopause” from. And of course my incredibly loving family who are truly my favorite people on the planet and always there for me no matter what ♡♡♡
