We had the good fortune of connecting with @HimNeverDem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi @HimNeverDem, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Honestly , I think taking risk played a major part in my life- not only growing up but even as an adult. Coming from the small town of Alexandria, Louisiana- you never really hear of comedians other than the ones you see on TV and you never see people creating content. So not only did I take a risk when I moved from Louisiana to Houston but I also took a risk when I chose to follow my talent being on stages in front of large crowds making people laugh. Every risk I’ve taken in life has rewarded me, like, when I chose to become a truck driver for example. Yes, you heard me right on top of being a father, content creator, and comedian- I’m also a full time truck driver.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a content creator these days is almost the new norm, so what sets me apart from the massive community of influencers would be the fact I also do stand up comedy. So not only being connected to my supporters on Instagram, but also reaching out to people and building connections face to face while making them laugh is definitely different from making 15 second videos or making vlogs. So yeah I’m very proud of the fact I’m able to do stand up, even as a kid I knew I’d be on stage because I looked up to people like Kevin Hart, Eddie Murphy, Mike Epps, and Katt Williams. I started creating content around 2021 where I instantly start going viral for skits/voiceovers then I started doing stand up comedy in 2023 just by going to open mic nights at some of the biggest comedy clubs in Houston. Before the year was out , I had performed over a hand full of shows and I even got paid for a few. I mean can you imagine that, in 1 year I was getting paid for stand up shows? It wasn’t easy though, I went to some clubs that made me pull jokes out my ear just to make them laugh , I had to understand mixed crowds real fast, you know? But I’m glad I did it because I’ve never been scared of being on stage, I just had to make my jokes more broader or straight forward. As far as me being a brand on and off social media, I want people to know that I also plan on jumping into acting roles in the years to come- I’m only going to get bigger and bigger from here.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I mean I’m always on the road- mostly working, visiting family, or getting personal time with my kids so this is a tough one. But if I was to have any of my friends to meet up with me out here in Cali , where would we go ? My friends and I all love to drink so we’d definitely go check out the bars in the area like 33 Taps, or even The Honor Bar up in Beverly Hills. Of course we’d visit the beach in Santa Monica, or even go to Long Beach. But one thing I’d love to do for sure would be to perform at a comedy lounge up here in Cali, like that would be dope for sure. I mean it’s so many out here with legendary history, like The Laugh Factory, Laugh Out Loud, the list goes on. So that what I would be trying to do honestly, perform as much as possible which is another thing that sets me apart from the other guys- I’m like a machine that never stops trying to do something major.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Oh wow man, I don’t even know where to start because throughout life with so many ups and downs I’ve had support from a lot of great people. But before I start going down that list, the one person who tops them all would be my grandmother. My grandmother, Delores Dodd, raised me from a very young age while my father was incarcerated. She instilled discipline in me but also showed me tough love so that I would become the strong man I am today in order to break generational curses. I can go on and on about my grandmother but in short, I’ll say that I’m blessed to still have her and just extremely thankful for how she raised me. I don’t want to sit here and not show love and gratitude to others that I know deserve recognition as well though. My 2 aunts also played a major part in making me a strong minded, career driven man- Lottie Dodd and Candice Dodd. They both are phenomenal women that tried their best to help my grandmother raise me because honestly it was not always an easy job, so they stayed on me for sure. So family definitely means a lot to me because my family isn’t one of those large families that link up ever weekend or like the ones you see on TV. But before we move on, I think 2 of my closest friends deserve to be mentioned as well- my sister from another mother, Carlyssa Sampson and my righ-hand man, Diminique Lezama , both have played major supporting roles in my life . I met Carlyssa growing up and she always told me I should be a comedian because I would do some of the silliest things . We got close just by having the same mindset , wanting to get out of Louisiana by any means , and our bond has grown over the years so shout out to her for sure. Last but not least, my good friend Diminique Lezama because their was a time where I lost everything and he made sure I got back on my feet in little to no time by putting me in the right circle of people. So major shoutout to everyone that I have mentioned, if I missed you, I’m sorry don’t hold it against me. Next question?
