We had the good fortune of connecting with illunis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi illunis, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking is a big factor of life. Sometimes, it’s real easy to get risk taking and gambling mixed up. In the music business, there are many risks that we have to take. Those risks are driven from previous data or experiences that we have encountered or overcame. Though there are times in life you might need to take a gamble.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hard work and consistency are keys to seeing success, but it takes more than that. Paraphrasing author Derek Thompson, “We have an attraction to the new but a resistance to the unfamiliar.” That being said, it can be difficult for people to try new things having them be unfamiliar. New music can sometimes be “unfamiliar” as well. It can be challenging writing music in a constantly transforming world. Things are always changing and so is the music. That’s where we come in! We are that familiar surprise, that stranger that feels like a friend, we are new wine aged in old oak. As a band with different musical tastes, it takes us outside our comfort zone (for the most part) and makes us explore outside our genre. It’s always an on going journey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
They say you can be a tourist in your own city which is true when you live in Los Angeles. You can take a scenic hike to the Griffith Park Observatory or survive an apocalyptical earthquake at Universal Studios Hollywood. Eat at glamorous restaurants such as Dan Tana’s or Musso and Frank’s, or just grab a burger at your nearest In & Out. We’ve actually never eaten at Dan Tana’s or Musso and Frank’s but it’s on the list!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our shoutout goes to our fans and supporters! Without them, there is no “us.” They give us life and help us grow to our full potential. It’s amazing to share this journey with them. This includes Sparam Entertainment, which gave us a musical platform to perform on. Goorin Brothers Hat Co. for always making us look good, and Empire Ears for keeping the sweetest sound in our ears. Also a special thanks to our photographer/cinematographer Evan Morton and our lovely producer Ty Davis and for always working with us and for bringing our visions to life.
