We had the good fortune of connecting with Irving Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Irving, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to get into this business because it aligns with what feels to be my purpose in this life. I truly feel as though part of my mission in this lifetime is to enlighten people through the power of art – specifically, entertainment. To be a part of something that makes one think and feel. I remember that every chance I got, I would go to the movies and just be completely immersed and taken away from whatever harsh reality awaited a young, poor, black and gay kid living in the hood of Miami, I really did feel like I finally found where I belonged. I feel as though through acting in general whether that be on camera, or voice over, or comedy – that I can make the most impact from the most organic place within me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I’m an actor, voice over artist and comedian. Those three areas would be the main avenues in which I naviagate my career. I also really enjoy writing and sketch comedy, and have wanted to get back to those roots as well. Overall, I feel as though I’m this vessel of endless creativity and inpiration. Which is comforting but can also be a challenge when trying to make a career out of ones talent. I’ve taken a step back and assessed what makes me the happiest right now, while also being a well to tap into to earn a living.

I am fully immersed in what I am doing. I am passionate. Whether that be voicing an animated squirrel or performing a comedy set in a room full of people, I am there and loving it!

I got to where I am today professionally by investing in myself, my outlook on life, and a higher prioritization of my career.

People ask me all the time how do you get into this business, and I say – take a class! You meet so many wonderful people who may end up becoming not only contacts, but close friends. Whenever possible, I join a new class, or upgrade my submission materials and equipment – whatever I can do to continue to rise and grow as an artist and as a person. I try to be kind to myself regardless of the outcome of a project and remember that as long as I did my absolute best, then I did all I could! And lastly and most recently I’d say, instead of devoting my life to dead end day jobs to get by in between gigs, I prioritze my career and the reasons why I’ve dedicated my life to my craft. Those approaches and lessons combined have shown me much success in recent years and I am grateful.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh my goodness! I have to admit I’m totally a workaholic BUT when I do have a freind in town, I totally like to play tour guide! I would say you can’t go wrong with taking a studio tour at Warner Brothers Studios. As a former tour guide, I know first hand how immersive and incredible that tour is specifically. I really enjoy going to places like The Grove & Farmer’s Market. SO many options for food and shopping and entertainment – plus it’s mostly outside and who doesn’t want to be outside in beautiful, sunny LA! Citywalk is also a really fun and happening area I like to go to mainly at night because of all the neon and music in the air. That’s actually my BFF’s favorite LA spot – so that’s a must everytime she’s here. Lastly, I’m a big ol Disney nerd, so let’s head on down to Disneyland!

Nothing better than heading over to California Adventure, having a drink and knowing that none of those crying children around you are your problem. HAHA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to Shoutout my increditble best friend and sister, Emily. She has seen me at my highest of highs and absolute lowest of lows – and has never left my side.

Emily gives me love and support and endearing encouragment. I would not be who and where I am today, without her.

I’d also like to Shoutout the rest of my tribe, as they’ve all played tremendous parts in my life.

My Miami Mother, Marissa, has nurtured me through life and welcomed me into her heart and home.

My bestie Juanita has shown me the value of being kind to oneself even in the toughest of times.

My god mother Molly has looked out for me countless times and I know she always has my back.

My good friend Bruce opened his home to me in my greatest time of need and continues to inspire me with his kind spirit.

And I’d also like to thank everyone on my team, from my amazing manager Jackie over at LAU Talent, to all of my hard working agents over at Atlas Talent, Vamos Talento in the UK, 90210 Talent and Park Artists Group.

I am eternally grateful for each and every one of these special people.
