Meet Isabel Amigon: Human behind Sololi

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isabel Amigon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isabel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I started all I was thinking was in helping the artisan families as much as I could and on the way share beautiful handmade pieces of art with the world

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started it was all about the artisan but little by little the inner creative woke up in me and I started making pillows out of table runners making luggage tags out of remnants huipil pieces and making headbands from traditional fabrics from Mexico, Guatemala and Peru and even using non conventional fabric like the jerga to make ponchos, headbands and even bags has it being easy NO. nothing that’s worth your time it’s easy it takes time dedication and love for what your doing I have learned everything as I go so it has definitely made things more difficult but not impossible. What do I want the world I want them to love everything they purchase from us I want them to know and feel all the love that goes into each piece and that there purchase not only benefits our family but all the artisans and collaborators families that makes this possible. It also helps us donate a % to Adelante Student a #cause that aligns with our values which helps support undocumented high school students in rural upstate NY explore resources, and gain access to higher education. A purchase from us mean you are contributing to the future of a dreamer! When you support our #smallbusiness, you also help us support causes that matter!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow I’m actually a home body so we will definitely not be out as much but definitely would take walks to the Kensico Dam or just around the neighborhood also watch so many movies and if we had to order out it will definitely be Chinese Food is so good and after that it will definitely be me cooking I’m a pretty good cook I’m. Native New yorker born to Dominican parents the hubby is from Mexico so in this house there’s a fusion of both nationality when it comes to food you might have some amazing pozole ( approved by my father in law said I have surpassed the teacher my mother in law) one day and the next day have the best spicy beef stew with rice and beans and salad and some yellow plantains you have ever had so we definitely have the best of both worlds the issue will be that nobody ever wants to leave.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people first one my husband and my girls for believing in my dream of helping and sharing, all the artisan that I have had the pleasure to work with for trusting me and welcoming me into there family my mother in law and so many other family members that have been my eyes when I haven’t been there and the universe for allowing me to share what I love.
