We had the good fortune of connecting with Isamar Denise Tovar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Isamar Denise, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The word Risk sounds scary but it has been a blessing in my life. I took a risk moving to L.A. not knowing the city nor having any friends and relatives. It’s was a big change in my life and I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen. Risk was a blessing because I found the courage, my will and myself. Risk is just a feeling that makes you realize how bad you want something without thinking much about the consequences, I just hoped the consequences ended up being good, and they were. 🙂

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Most of the work I’ve landed were music videos and I was pretty excited for all of them. Working for Tones and I to Macklemore and other great artist. I’ve also done background work for great shows and the energy is just mesmerizing, I really get to see and learn how things work behind camera. I think what sets me apart is my appearance, how I look. You really do get casted by just your headshot. I still have a long way to go and I am still working towards booking that commercial, show or project that is going to shift my career and is going to allow me to land more opportunities. I am excited for the moment, I am excited for putting in the work, I am excited for the journey. Really soaking in the process and the effort because it has not been an easy path to take on. Leaving home, missing out and just being on my own for the most part has been hard. I learned to adjust to my new life in L.A. by going on hikes and chasing waterfalls. I got into yoga and I picked up the ukulele to keep myself sane. Above all I am working towards my dream and something I want the world to know is that I have this quote that always motivates me, “Where there is a will, there is a way!”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Love this! I’ve had friends come over and my go to places are taking them to the Hollywood sing. I found a spot where you can go just beneath it. El Matador beach. I love that beach, I love how the rocks look. It has more than just salt water and sand.
Hiking, so many hikes but my favorite ones would be Stoddard Canyon Falls ( easy hike with waterfall) Bonita falls, Burkhart Trail, and Hummingbird Trail.
When it comes to food I would say Forman’s Whiskey Tavern, for a chill night out. Pink Taco for some drinks and great food. A Rooftop, any rooftop to enjoy brunch/night views.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to The AFA Studio family for teaching me the businesses and how to book. Shoutout to my friends & family who have been supportive and one in particular for always being my number one fan and helping me in everyway possible. Thank you to all!
