Hi Ivy Welburn & Jazmin Erving, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” -Amelia Earhart

No words have been able to express our life adventure better than these. We hang this quote every where we go and live by its premise. Who knew that by opening your heart, the lives of many could change. An industry will change and these roots will spring up in all directions.

BECAUSE I ROCK is a crystal company founded on a good deed. We are best friends, Jazmin & Ivy, who encountered a stranded driver in the woods of Mt. Shasta. He was desperate for help, so we helped. Just that simple. After an 8 hour wait for a tow, we all got to know each other and realized we had a mutual love of rock hounding and crystals. Difference was, he actually owned crystal mines. Our small collection paled in comparison to his million dollar rocks, but we literally struck gold with meeting someone, by chance who would soon change our lives.

As a thank you, Deer Mark (named because of his unfortunate accident with a deer), sent us a box of beautiful jewels and an invitation to visit his “Happy Place”. This was on the very top of a mountain where crystals pour out of seems like ripe fruit. It was the most exhilarating experience of our lives. We have never come down from the high of that day. That is when BECAUSE I ROCK was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are crystal miners. Otherwise known as gem hunters and treasure seekers. We are lucky enough to see what the earth looks like under the surface. It is miraculous, amazing and incredible. We have mined for minerals that give us the thrill for the hunt and the feeling of awe when cleaning these gems for the first time.

This is what inspired our business idea. After a day of mining smoky quartz in Nevada, we went back to the hotel to finally analyze our find. We started washing them one by one and marveled at their beauty. This was the best part – the big reveal.
Our light bulbs went off and we knew we had the idea that we could bring to market, BECAUSE I ROCK is a crystal company that offers “a new way to crystal.” We leave the mud on the crystals and let you wash off the prehistoric mud. We have UnEarthed Kits that is a little mining adventure in a box. We also produce party boxes (good for a group of 10) and bring our mobile location called, “The Crystal Caboose” to your private party, festival or school event. We are the first to bring the concept of washing your own crystals to the entertainment, event, education and gift markets.

Jazmin and I were former event planners. This gave us tons of experience in how to produce a product that can be used to entertain everyone from a small child to a 70 year old grandparent. The earth’s fruits are universally loved and being able to experience something new, like washing off their original mud, makes it the gift that keeps on giving.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love to spend time at our local hangouts. Our personal favorite for a cool date night or creative day is TANSY in Burbank. I describe it as a fairyland filled with wonder. I also fancy a day on Ventura with Liberate, We Village and Casa Vega. They never disappoint.

We love hanging at these places so much that you will often see us with our Crystal Caboose washing crystals. We are at each spot at least once a month and host many private parties at these locations. If you’re looking for a cool party venue – they all work great!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to dedicate our success to all the other business owners and mentors that have made it a point to make BECAUSE I ROCK a dream come true. Every relationship that built this company came from a chance meeting.

Deer Mark opened our eyes to a world we did not know was possible. His introduction to his partner, Paul, allowed us to develop this business and forge new relationships that would eventually lead to mine ownership,

We entered into the Los Angeles crystal and gift market with very few contacts, but had a chance meeting with the owner of Liberate on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks (2 doors down from Casa Vega). We were scheduled to film our promo video at a different location. It all fell through and in the last moment, the producer’s neighbor offered her space. It was perfect!! Liberate Yourself has become one of our strongest supporters and feature us monthly to wash crystals from our “Crystal Caboose.”

While hosting our “Love Thyself” event at Liberate we met Ella, who displayed her TANSY specialties at her booth. We became an instant fan and now host a monthly crystal washing at Tansy in Burbank.

Apparently we were all supposed to share our happy nature with each other. This tree of life has branches we all rely on and many we have yet to explore.
