We had the good fortune of connecting with Ivy wxt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ivy, why did you pursue a creative career?
Art has always fascinated me, and drawing was a constant part of my childhood. In college, studying fine art and minoring in Psychology helped me understand myself better. Initially, my interest in art was about following my passion for drawing and storytelling. Over time, I realized art’s power to educate, raise awareness about social issues, and bring joy by beautifying our surroundings.

After graduation, I struggled to communicate my artistic thoughts but discovered that art is about forming connections with others. Illustration, in particular, aims to communicate ideas clearly. Pursuing an artistic career feels like fulfilling my true self. I am passionate about storytelling and love that the art world values self-expression, authenticity, and creativity. This freedom inspires me to turn dreams into reality, making art a deeply fulfilling career for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Finding a unique voice in visual art, especially in illustration, is challenging. However, I believe I am on the right track.

My philosophy of using colors sets my work apart. I’ve received many compliments on the vibrancy and harmony of my colors. My experience with acrylic and oil paintings taught me that objects often have hidden colors beneath the surface. This concept, while familiar to traditional artists, is less common in digital art. I approach digital art with a traditional mindset, which gives my work a distinct visual quality.

Finding a consistent art style in the crowded illustration world is tough. I’ve faced inconsistency, but understanding myself and my philosophy has been crucial. I enjoy the details of colors, the characters in my work, and the stories they tell. Feedback from peers and advisors during my master’s program has been invaluable. Since illustration is about communication, understanding the public’s reaction to my work is essential.

I’ve gained confidence in storytelling through my art. People often note the subtle humor in my work. I believe in capturing random ideas because great ideas can come from unexpected sources. Trusting myself and my instincts has been vital. Art isn’t about right or wrong; it’s about perseverance and continuous creation. This mindset keeps me moving forward.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I come from a small city in China called Wenzhou, known for its beautiful natural scenes and rich local culture. While a week might be too short to visit distant preservation parks, I would definitely take my friend on a city walk. Wenzhou isn’t very big, so it’s easy to explore casually.

We would visit the old neighborhoods with historic houses and narrow alleys, where hidden gems like local cuisine stores offer delights such as ChangRen Dumplings and Sticky Rice Balls. We would also enjoy some cozy coffee shops that I frequented during my gap year.

In the evenings, we would admire the stunning river views with beautiful neon lights and illuminated buildings. The river is equally picturesque in the morning and at dawn, providing breathtaking views during sunrise and sunset, with the faraway mountains adding to the poetic scenery. I would definitely take my friend to the river’s edge to experience these captivating sights.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to deeply appreciate my partner Rahul, who has been a tremendous supporter of my art journey in the past few years. He recognized the potential in my stories and encouraged me to write them down. I gain a lot of confidence from his unwavering assurance, especially during times when I feel uncertain about my work.
