Meet Jackson Banks | Comedian and Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackson Banks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackson, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is necessary for an artist. Risk has played a major role for my career and life. If you don’t take risks in your life, it will grow dull. If you don’t take risks as an artist, you will be forgotten.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m very excited about my new stand up special coming out with 800 Pound Gorilla Media called Brain Kisser. It’s been a very difficult process to complete it because it’s not your average special. It’s more half special, half movie. I’m very excited to see how people react to it. I got where I am today through persistence. The most effective thing an artist can do is not quit. I’ve learned to follow my gut and never put out a project that I’m not proud of. I just want to be known as someone who will take the audience on a ride that they’ve never been on before.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The New Beverly Cinema is a must in LA. I’d also wine them and dine them at my favorite Mexican spots in East LA. Boyle Heights Super Burgers is a well kept secret. Peanut lake is a very private and peaceful getaway that I also highly recommend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a mysterious mentor named Tao. He provides unmatched moral and creative support. I don’t even real his real name, but he introduced me to 800 Pound Gorilla Media and got the ball rolling on me doing a Stand Up Special with them. He is not to be trifled with.
