We had the good fortune of connecting with jackson lynch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi jackson, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Working for myself is actually the fruit of something I’ve cultivated and practice daily which is being as present for every moment as I possibly can. In a culture that thrives on projection and reflection [making plans, being something and ruminating on the past], that one, seemingly simple thing, is such a challenge for all of us. That one decision, to live from breath-to-breath, has made my life so much more meaningful because it allows me to be connected to my body, my mind and my environment in real-time without an ego filter.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wow, a great question! Interestingly enough, for most of my life I was searching for the things that set me apart from others. That’s what we do in modern life, we look for an edge over the other person to satisfy our insatiable desire. I bought into that struggle for decades until through study and lots of deep reflection and mentoring from others I began to see that my “need” to be different and somehow better than others was the obstacle to both my freedom and my current “success”, if that’s what we’re calling it.

This evolution has by no means been easy. It’s challenging and sometimes deeply disturbing to put your head into the mouth of your ego and your demons. However, when I got to that place, when I committed to completely knowing, acknowledging and embracing every bit of myself, then each of those demons began to dissolve.

I imagine what I’d like others to see in me is a human being struggling AND allowing myself to be fully present for whatever arises in my life as an example of the power of acceptance.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
At the moment I’d say that have my dear friend stay with my family and enjoy our new home. At the turn of the year I moved to a brand new modern “green” complex, the Millennium Santa Monica, and it’s so well designed with loads of public space with phenomenal 360-degree views of Los Angeles, a community garden, gym and a lot more. It’s a space that encapsulates “home” and “community”. So my friend and I can eat, drink, commune and enjoy the sun, sky and fresh air. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow! There are so many people who have been and are actively supporting me from near and far. There are two people I want to send huge hugs and gratitude to here. First it’s my wife, Lisa Soulvera. She’s an artist with such enormous heart. She raised her two younger siblings, one of which had Down Syndrome. She’s a Mama Bear to me and so many others and she’s totally committed, she loves hard! The other person who’s currently a beacon for me is my teenager Iris. They’re so connected to the zeitgeist of culture, entertainment and social issues and is fearless in their advocacy for marginalized communities and very intelligently calls B.S. on B.S. They both keep me grounded AND on my toes!
