We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclyn Friedlander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaclyn, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote is: “You reap what you sow, you reap in multiples of what you sow, and you never reap in the same season in which you sow”. I love this quote because when you work in a creative field it is all about planting seeds and being patient while they grow. You have to have faith that the work you do now will pay off tenfold and often times it does!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I moved to Los Angeles after attending an acting conservatory in New York City and I booked some national commercials shortly after arriving. One credit I’m especially proud of is voicing the title character in a DreamworksTV animated show called ‘Sammy ‘n Amy.’ I recently played a nurse in a feature film that is set to be released later this year. While pursuing my acting career, I combine the two things I love most, performing and ocean conservation into a project called Friends with Fins. I host marine science videos on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/jaclynfriedlander) and the show is being pitched by a distribution company with the intention of moving it to television. In addition to the videos, I wrote a series of Friends with Fins children’s books that are available on Amazon and in some aquarium gift shops. I am also a regular on-air guest host at HSN and enjoy sharing products I’m passionate about with viewers. The journey has been an adventure. Some days are easier than others and the way I overcome challenges is to look at each challenge as an obstacle that is leading to the next opportunity. One big lesson I’ve learned is that every ‘no’ is one step closer to a ‘yes’. It seems like every time something I really wanted didn’t work out, something bigger, brighter and better was right around the corner.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite beach activity is tide pooling at Leo Carrillo. My favorite local place to hang out/have coffee is Steampunk Cafe in Burbank.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends and family are a huge source of inspiration and support in my life. I read a lot of business books and listen to the success podcasts. The book Your Money or Your Life is one of my favorites.
