We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacob, Hayden and David ( S.A.D. ) and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacob, Hayden and David, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Process of elimination. Although art has always been our main interest, we have all done our share of career exploration before we realized that you can make a career out of doing something you love. S.A.D. ( Susan and Denise ) began as a one-off social media post, but something about people laughing with us and having fun really gave us the motivation and confidence to see the project as more of a brand. We launched our first run of merchandise this year and we were blown away by the positive response. We did not foresee our faces on coffee mugs when we started S.A.D. but as long as people are liking what we put out, we’ll keep expanding the brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This whole project has been a continuous learning experience and has helped us grow as writers and artists. One challenge was expanding our no-dialogue 60 second video format. Going from that into writing comedic dialogue for collaborators and people we admire was intimidating, and overcoming that fear of ‘not being funny enough’ feels great.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In these uncertain times we’ve lost some great LA spots. However, we’ve found walking on the beach to be a great way to escape and refresh. Kenneth Hahn Park is also one of our favorite places to walk. Additionally, we encourage anyone visiting Los Angeles to hit up one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants, Taquerias Los Anaya in Historic West Adams.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
You wouldn’t know it by looking at us, but we have Melrose Place to thank for S.A.D. The concept of Susan and Denise came after weeks of binge watching nothing but Melrose Place. In terms of truly bringing Susan and Denise to life we have an amazing network of friends to thank who have volunteered their time and energy. We feel very fortunate to be able to share this experience with people we love. Without the talents of our friends and loved ones there wouldn’t be Susan and Denise. It’s our goal to take the love and support we receive from our friends and collaborators and continue to spread that message through the power of irreverent comedy.
