We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacqueline Sarabia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacqueline, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Today I will not stress over things I can’t control”

This is my favorite quote because for many years I was affected by many things and when I felt frustrated, I felt my stomach burning from so much rage. Over time, I understood that it was useless to get angry about things I couldn’t control. That anger only affected my physical and emotional health and little by little I began to recognize and feel my emotions and wonder why I feel the way I do. Just like the inside out movie, it’s important to feel and express our emotions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A bit of my art, I’m a podcaster. Three years ago I decided to start my podcast because I wanted to motivate and inspire people with my guest’s life stories, and also to continue to practice my producer skills. It’s been an amazing learning experience connecting with my guests, and the project makes me happy.

What sets me apart from others? I don’t know, maybe my personality, watch the podcast and tell me – lol

For two years I was recording through Zoom, but last year I got the idea that it was time to level up the production and do conversations in person. I spoke with my friend Adolfo Hinojosa who supported me with the cameras and joined my crazy adventure. I got out of my comfort zone and started recording in English; something I didn’t imagine three years ago but it feels good and I’m proud of myself and I thank myself for pushing me and not giving up.

Lessons I’ve learned along the way? I could say that in my life, not just doing the podcast. First, I learned to respect myself and accept my present. For many years I judged myself because I was not at the professional level of many people my age; and because when I was 18 years old when I wrote my project/life goals and they were not the ones I was living, so I have learned to love, respect myself and to celebrate my progress!

Creative, one of the challenges for me was that I compared my project with other podcasts, and I noticed that they already had a communication team, production, post-production, and social media team and I was all that, and that right now I must work on this project that I believe in. Nothing is easy, but if we keep working on the things we love and we are passionate about, good things will come our way.
If you feel afraid to do something remember: Let that fear force you to grow (quoting one of my podcast guest).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Too many people have been with me along this journey. I will start with my family. When I told them that I wanted to move to this city to continue my dreams, they never tried to stop me, they always supported my decision. My close friends who have been like my psychologists, whenever I had really hard days in all aspects of my life, they have been there to listen to me and to cry or laugh with me.

I’m from Tijuana Mexico and when I was 17 years old I started my journey studying English in San Diego and I had to get legal guardians, who were family friends. I will always be grateful to them for opening their home to me so that I could go to school in San Diego.

My college mentor, Mr. Mark Sisson from Southwestern College (San Diego). I studied Telemmedia and every time we had a new project, we had to make a presentation to the class and explain the motivation behind our short film and the type of shots we would do to accomplish the project. I always felt embarrassed to speak in front of the class because English is my second language and well, I speak with an accent, but Mr. Sisson often told me that there were many professionals with accents and that it didn’t matter. So every time I felt insecure, I always remembered his advice and moved on.
Lastly, many friends from San Diego, some are no longer in my life but I will always be grateful because they opened the doors of their homes to me. I would always arrive very early to work or school because sometimes crossing the border would take me around 3-4 hours. They allowed me to spend the night so I didn’t have to cross the border the next day, so I will always be grateful for them (#vidafronteriza).
