We had the good fortune of connecting with Jake Keith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jake, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The majority of the work is done behind the scenes whether it’s releases, shows, advancing, producing, branding, etc; the fans don’t see the crazy amount of hours that goes into something as small as a single headline/ support show.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artist name is Kliptic & I am an EDM producer, mainly focusing on dubstep! I also write other genres in my free time to help keep things fresh and allow my creativity to flow in any direction.

What sets me apart from others is the amount of time I spend on branding & the versatility of the music I produce. Some of my tracks are Rocktronic (Metal/rock-infused dubstep), some are super melodic, and others have a super ambient movie-like intro with crazy soundscapes. I’ve been super proud of the releases I have been stacking up over the past 6 months as well as the show/ festival offers I have been receiving. I never thought that in my 3 short years of producing and 5 years of DJing I’d be in the spot I am now! I’ve gotten the opportunity to share the stage and do official remixes for some of the people who inspired me to start my production journey.

I started my professional career by playing small local shows. I quickly realized that some of the less established promoters didn’t treat the artists correctly and with respect. Using my dad’s knowledge of the music industry from being in the rock scene for 30+ years, my friends and I broke off to start our own collective and throw our own shows. This helped me get the initial experience of playing live and building some support for my project. It continued to grow until I got the opportunity to play bigger and better shows. After some of those big opportunities at the start, I realized production would take me to the next level, as well as give me an outlet to express myself. So that’s exactly what I did!

It definitely was not easy and took a lot of time and dedication to even become proficient at producing and DJing. I learned along the way that there’s a lot more to an artist’s project than just the music and that you get what you put in. Along with stacking up unreleased music, I’ve been working on the branding and theme of my project. If you look at my branding, it is centered around royalty, kings, knights, dragons, etc. My branding comes from a mixture of my love for Game of Thrones and my late grandfather’s love of Crown Royal Whiskey. If you look at the crown in my logo, it’s subliminally shaped as my initials JK.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would most likely take my friends to downtown D.C. there are a lot of things to do including restaurants, venues like Echostage, museums, or sporting events.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a major shoutout to my family, my girlfriend, my manager & long-time friend cole, & my close friends for being super supportive and understanding. Without their continued support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Whether it was my parents getting me my first mixer as a gift when I was 17 or my girlfriend/ friends coming out to my shows, sharing my music/ project, and understanding that I won’t have nearly as much free time to hang out as other people.
