We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamika Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamika, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I recently threw balance out of the window after listening to The Blessed & Bossed Up Podcast. My new friend is PRIORITY! Balance had me over here trippin’ daily. I was feeling inadequate and all over the place because I would plan to give a balanced percentage of time and attention to my husband, kids, career, self and family but the reality is every day is different and even with my amazing calendars and beautified planners, I cannot control how things will unfold with each new day. So now PRIORITY is my bae. Prioritizing helps me take a daily assessment of what’s necessary for the present day and how can I manage what’s in my control. I still plan and have calendars everywhere but I don’t let the unexpected stop me from having hope in getting things done.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What sets me apart is my audacity to be myself. My steps don’t make sense but I trust in who I’ve been called to be. I am naked about my struggles and transparent about my joy. I believe I got to where I am today by surrendering and letting my instincts thrive. For so much of my life I’ve strategized and had a tight hold on every turn, but motherhood has forced me to pray about it then do it just because I feel led. When you watch kids in their zone, they are creative, unpredictable, and amazed by simple things. It’s not easy to do that as an adult but it’s something we can all practice day by day. I want the world to know God cares, He listens, and He responds on HIS TIME. My hope is to make sure PrayerPlug makes you feel equipped and prepared on the journey of life whether things are good or bad. Breath in the body means you have purpose and it means there’s more in store so embracing it will welcome the blessings we all want and need!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The beach is always my first go-to when the fam is in town! That’s one of the main reasons my husband and I moved to LA! Our first stop on the beach tour would be Manhattan beach. It’s refreshing, yet lavish! We have to eat at The Strand House because their view is nostalgic. Then we would walk the strip by the beach houses while the sun is setting. We may even get in the sand if we don’t mind getting ashy lol. Next stop would be Zuma beach! The drive to Malibu always has me amazed at the grandeur of our world. The mountains and hills are breathtaking. After any long drive, you have to get good food, so we are most definitely stopping at The Sunset. Having fresh seafood while your feet is in the sand is necessary for every trip to LA! Now that we’ve relaxed a little, it’s a must that we go shopping! My favorite places are Beverly Hills, The Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, and Westfield’s Century City Mall. To wrap up the trip we have to get entertained so we are bringing some cash to the Santa Monica pier. There is pure entertainment from start to finish and the people deserve a tip! Before anyone leaves we have to make sure the view of the city is experienced so we are driving up to an overlook, lifting up the trunk of the truck and eating a meal prepared by my girlfriend, Khadijah Nimrod, author of Soul to Soul Cookbook, because sis puts love and luxury in every meal! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Holy Bible deserves all the recognition because it’s been getting’ me all the way together. I’m in a season in my life where I want a new thing and God wants to do a new thing yet I kept finding myself not seeing the results I wanted because I was watching every free webinar or reading contradictory self-help books. I love a biography or mastermind but there are seasons where you have to tap into the true essence of how God intended your life to be outside of what the world tries to tell us we should be. The Bible is the book of life and life is what it’s giving me!
