We had the good fortune of connecting with Jarad jtouch Reed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarad jtouch, what do you want people to remember about you?
When I envision my own, personal, legacy; I envision a world in which I have left a mark on generations to come. My legacy, my imprint upon the world; is to know that once I’m gone, no matter what life will take you through, no matter how hard those life obstacles may seem; you are never too weak, to take it on. Never let anyone influence your perception of yourself and how you have lived your own life. In times like the present, with the worldwide pandemic; Covid-19, I have told people that it takes a strong person to get through these many obstacles and prosper in these unparalleled times. Times like these show us who the true warriors, and the true Gods, that are willing to fight and get what they need to survive. Some of us start life at the bottom. When you ‘re on the bottom; you are more inclined to go through obstacles. Once we get to the middle, it does get to be a bit smoother, but you must always tell yourself “it isn’t over yet”. We still have a few more obstacles to take on, but oh when we make it t to the to the top; or even close to the top, it gets a lot easier. We must always be aware that there are some bumps and hiccups along the way, with some added turbulence. One thing that helps me is that I tell myself “I’ve gotten this far, after taking hit after hit, and I always kept pushing “. So, what is next? Why not keep pushing, why not keep going? You must learn and understand that life is never meant to be easy, or will it ever be. Making it through, shows you are strong. It shows your will power, your due diligence, and trust me all things aligned will fall into place, God willing! So, back to the original question! I want people to remember me by the things in life that I have accomplished and to understand that it took patience, diligence, sacrifice, heart ache, pain, and hard work. In the end, with the fire that burnt in me; the Fire that I had and prevailed with; so will any person that is willing and ready to make the journey, most definitely you will too! And you too will look back and say “daaaayum I did it!”. I always look back to the ancient west African concept of the Sankofa. The concept of “Sankofa” is derived from King Adinkera of the Akan people of West Africa. “Sankofa” is expressed in the Akan language as: “se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenki.” Literally translated; this means “it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot”. To me it means “never be afraid to look back in the past to move forward into the future!” Blessings!!!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the world of artistry, it can be hard to set yourself apart from herd solely on your crafts and skill set. Ultimately, I feel that one’s personality should be shown on the surface. When you reveal your personality on a professional level, you are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. I know for a fact that when you meet JTouch you will remember me. Whether you are the client on set that day, or the photographer I’m meeting for the first time, should my skills not leave a mark, my personality will definitely deliver a great experience. My proudest moment to date, I would say was being able to have full creative direction for the hairstyles on the 2019 Kanye West Series of Operas, which were showcased at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl, Art Bozel in Miami, and Lincoln Center in New York. I honestly know this sounds cliche but God, hard work, blood, sweat and tears have laid the foundation of my path to get to where I am now. I’ve truly worked hard for all the things that have crossed my path. Was it easy? Heck no. However, was it worth it? Heck yes! The reward after all the endless labor is what motivates me to keep pushing on. My client’s happiness after receiving a service from me, whether a huge gig or a regular client, that satisfaction keeps pushing me towards greatness. I’ve learned so many lessons along the way, but the one that stands out the most is no matter how dark the tunnel may seem there is always light at the end. The end will always come. I’ve learned that failure is always an option. Failing just ensures that I have at least tried. No’s only ensure that you are that much closer to the yes that you need that will boost you to the places that you are supposed to be! I want the world to know that JTOUCH isn’t only a brand, it’s a movement. I use my craft to educate and uplift generations now and to come. I will use whatever tools at my disposal to make sure I continue my mission. My journey, my purpose and my voice are so much more than these words I have given today. It’s safe to say stay tuned for a book or maybe two in the future!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, if my best friend was to come to town the main thing he or she would like to do is eat! And depending on their taste buds at the time depends on where we are going. I really enjoy Ma and Pop joints, they are more authentic and you can almost taste the love in the place. So for breakfast I would take them to Taps Cafe on Florence and 8th. To enjoy some really great home made breakfast. They have an array of things, such as; fried pork chops, biscuits and gravy, breakfast sandwiches and much more to choose from. You must catch them early, on regards to them having special business hours. If I’m not mistaking they only open from 5am to 3 pm. Then of course for the most tourists thing to go, would be the Santa Monica pier, which I find everyone loves to do. We would maybe check out a restaurant or two, for their awesome drinks and seafood. I’m not sure the name of the place but I know it is bomb! Then of course we would have to check out Runyon Canyon a couple days out the week, so we could get our exercise and people watching out at the same time. When going to Runyon not only to you get a good workout but you get to see all the people that are there to workout and those that are there for clout! With all their make up on and cute matching workout gear. Then I’m sure at some point we would take a nice ride up PCH and see the beautiful coastline and show them where I think I know where Cher lives , and where the rich and famous lives. That’s always a super experience. I mean there is so much to do, it just depends on the hearts desires!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I actually have a couple of mentors I can contribute my success too. My first ever mentor in Houston Texas, Dennis McClendennon. And Marquetta Breslin out of Las Vegas
