We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Lorenzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I believe in the power of manifesting to create what you want for your future. Visualizing the goals I want, and making it a reality is what it takes to start a business. If you can see it for yourself, it only takes applying action to evoking one’s dream. I had a strong vision of what I wanted for my business, and although it has not been easy, I have to remind myself that there are no short cuts in becoming a business owner. I laid out a manifesto with detailed attainable goals with a specific timeline of when things would happen. Working night and day, countless hours, and actually putting in the work makes the vision concrete.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been an actor most of life, and back in 2018 I started my own production company Sooner Or Lady with an aim to create a platform for under represented stories in the BIPOC community. It’s never easy starting a business, but with challenges and sacrifices come success if you put in the work and commitment. And how we measure success is different for many people. I constantly revamp my success targets, upping the ante and making attainable goals within a given time frame. This has allowed me to make progress and concrete actions in my business ventures. I have a very idiosyncratic view of the world which I believe sets me apart from many, and this is represented in my writing. I parked fear and doubt in my 20s, never looking back, and started on the journey of self-love and self-motivation. This has immensely helped shape my focus in achieving the life I envision for myself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start with brunch at one of my favorite LA spots – Dinah’s in Westchester. The Apple Pancakes are insanely good, and after a full a stomach we can take a stroll in Playa Del Rey or Venice since it’s in the vicinity. We would then check out some of the newest art shows at LACMA. For lunch I would definitely say El Coyote for the win as we make our way east towards DTLA where I like to hang out for cocktails and night life. Just for views alone I would make a reservation the steakhouse La Boucherie inside the Intercontinental Hotel Downtown for their mouth watering chops and gorgeous atmosphere. Then we can get more cocktails at Spire 73 which is hands down my favorite rooftop bar in Los Angeles. That’s given there’s no more lockdowns or restrictions anymore. One can hope for a day like this.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
You Were Born for This: Astrology for Radical Self-Acceptance a book by Chani Nicholas, I believe found me at the right moment. During the chaotic and unknown outcome of 2020 leading into 2021, this book freed me from any restraint or doubt that kept me from living out my dream and business goals. I have recommended this book to many people, and have only received the same feedback I felt when I read it for the first time. It’s a book that I constantly reference and use as practical guide for my life.
Lisa Nichols is also a motivational speaker who has greatly inspired me through her talks, and short YouTube videos that give me the inspiration I need to go further and achieve my dreams.
