We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Bhatti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
You can’t afford not to be risky if you want to succeed. It requires a mix of logic and intuition, but there is nothing to gain by playing it safe and playing small. If I wouldn’t have taken the risk to start my business, I wouldn’t be where I am at today. It’s hard to take the leap, but if you plan things out right, you can help mitigate challenges if things don’t go as planned or things just fail. It’s also important to think of failure as a lesson and this is a potential outcome when taking a risk. I’ve taken risks in business that have cost money and time, but they have taught many lessons. For example, we started a new product line. It didn’t work out, but I learned I didn’t plan out enough, and I didn’t have the right people in critical roles. It taught me about the people I had on board, and what they can and can’t do. This is so important as a new leader when you are trying to figure out who goes where. I also thought I had done enough research and planning, but I underestimated the difficulty of getting the program off the ground. So although things didn’t work out the way I wanted, I learned some really important lessons. Ultimately, if I had not taken the risk I did to step away from the bedside as a nurse to start my business, hundreds of nurses and clients wouldn’t have the joy or outcomes that I can confidently say we have helped to provide. What this means- is that the world misses out on our magic when we don’t take risks that are meant to turn into greatness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a nurse for 13 years, and it’s a career I would have never imagined for myself, but I am a nurse in my heart forever. After caring for my grandmother with head and neck cancer, I realized being a nurse was my calling. Her hospice nurse in particular was the person who helped me see and feel firsthand the power of human connection.

Shortly after becoming a nurse, I realized that there were so many gaps in healthcare, many of which I had experience with her at end of life. What I had thought was unique to my family and I, was indeed not unique to us. So many people struggle as family caregivers. In caring for her, I felt the deep pains of being a family caregiver and how little support insurance provides for family caregivers. During this time, I failed all my classes in school, lost my identity, missed out on a full college experience, and felt a sense of deep overwhelm in having the responsibility of managing her complex health needs.

It was experiencing this suffering that helped me find my passion as well as my purpose and I wouldn’t chose a different path if I could. My purpose is to help people never go through what my family and I went through again, and it’s amazing to see the impact my business has been able to make already.

In my years as a nurse, I learned so much. Nurses are not always invited to the table for decision making, and it is critical that I help be part of the movement to inspire other nurses to step out and away and innovate and be heard. When a nurse speaks, the voice of the patients are heard, and by. empowering nurses, we can really transform healthcare. Also, being a minority female founder, there are unique struggles we face. It is so important to me to help inspire other women and minorities to know that they can achieve anything they want.

This all is contingent on a few things. Believing in one-self and taking action. When we feel worthy of the influence we can make and we take action in the direction that we need to, we can accomplish anything. This is a particularly important message to share with people who are typically overlooked or not taken seriously- like women and minorities.

I know for a fact that building Navi Nurses is my purpose in life. We are going to put the power of health back in the hands of people, so they can drive their care with the support they deserve, while allowing nurses to flourish by letting them practice in a way that brings them joy, and allows them to be the nurse they always dreamt of being.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely must take a trip to Sedona to explore all the incredible beauty and feel the energy of one of the most incredible places in the world! We would first catch breakfast at Hash Kitchen in Phoenix, because they have an amazing DJ with a delicious menu to get us up and going! Then, drive up to would spend time hanging out in Oak Creek at Slide Rock and hiking one of the incredible mountains there. At the end of the day, we would catch sunset at the airport (it has the most amazing view!), and finish with dinner and drinks at L’Auberge which is an amazing resort on the creek with the most serene and relaxing way to unwind!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh gosh- there are so many people who deserve shot outs! Besides my family who have been so supportive every single step of the way, I would have to say Dr. Rick Hall was the first person who really gave me the permission I needed to share my idea and really provide the resources I needed to take it from idea to something tangible! He connected me with all the resources at Arizona State University that allowed me to start things off from financial support at the University, to being able to tap into students in other colleges to help share their knowledge and resources! I wouldn’t be here without him.
