Meet Jason Kent | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Kent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The habits that I think helped me succeed are consistency and discipline. I make it a habit to continuously hone my craft, even when I’m not working on client projects. Whether it’s studying new techniques, experimenting with lighting in my studio, or finding inspiration in unexpected places, I stay committed to growing & holding myself accountable to create. Another important habit is building relationships; the ability to collaborate effectively with models, makeup artists, producers, art directors, hairstylists, wardrobe stylists, etc. has been crucial. Lastly, I stay adaptability is very important. There are a lot of times on jobs where things don’t go exactly according to plan & you have to me comfortable & confident in switching gears.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would say my art mimics my personality a lot. Both my art & my personality are very bright, outgoing, colorful, & not afraid to break the rules. I love to create stories that offer a unique perspective that make people think twice. When people see my work I want to put a smile on their face & I am proud that my work is unapologetically genuine to myself. I think what sets me apart from others is my emphasis on emotion in my work. I love create a happy, positive, and uplifting feeling both on set and when people see it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
LA is one of the best places to visit because there is such a diverse variety of things to do. I love being outside, I love spending time in Malibu, going on hikes at Kenneth Hahn, & I love to play pickleball on the rooftop of the West Hollywood Library. Whenever I have people visiting me it’s a must to take them to Yeems Coffee in Koreatown, their buttercream latte is the best coffee I’ve had in LA. I love trying new bars & restaurants but if I had to pick my favorites I’d say Mirate in Los Feliz for dinner, and Oldfield’s Liquor Room in Culver City. Honorable mention is Joan’s on Third. Who doesn’t love a one stop shop? Their sandwiches and salads are incredible, the coffee is great, the curated selection of snacks & wine is unbeatable & you can never go wrong with their hot bar. During the weekend, LA has really great flea markets, I’d say my favorite is the Los Feliz flea or the Silverlake flea. There is also a lot of great art museums in LA. My current favorite is the Marciano Art Foundation in Mid Wilshire.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give my flowers to all the other incredible creatives I get to work with on the daily. Without everyone’s creativity & constant support I would not be anywhere near where I am in my life. The greatest joy about creating something is the collaboration aspect, and seeing how everyones talents come together to create something beautiful. I have made so many lifelong friendships from this industry & I want to shoutout everyone who has been apart of my creative journey!
