We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting your own business is always scary and requires huge risk, not to mention a lot of support from friends and family. When I was younger I always wanted to start my own business, but I was afraid of the risk…about 12 years ago my mom was killed in a plane crash. That one incident changed me, caused me to realize that life is short and can be gone in an instant. I had all of this money saved up and just thought to myself “I could be gone tomorrow and all this saved money would have been for nothing. So I decided to take a risk and open up my own retail store. I figured it would be better to try at my dream and fail, than to not try at all…because then I can never look back with “what if’s”. So that was the driving factor in pushing me to act on my dream and open my own small business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have been an Interior Designer since 1996. I started off designing/staging Model Homes and in those 12 years I did that, I designed over 300 homes in countless different design styles. In 2005, the market crashed and most of the Home Builders stopped building so I had to shift from model home design over to Residential design. I did that for a few years, until I opened my own home furnishings store her in West Hollywood in 2013. My store offers: Interior Design Services/Consultations, Custom upholstery / re-upholstery, Custom Drapery and Bedding, furniture and accessories which we have access to over 400 manufacturers so can usually find anything you are looking for. And lastly, to add to my line, we created our own handmade candle line. This line is amazing. We use 100% soy wax, we hand-mix our own scents which are made with essential oils, and all of our jars are recycled glass. We even offer $2 off their candle purchase when a customer brings back their empty candle jars to us for us to re-use. The candles do so well in my store, I had to create a website just for them: www.ignitebyjmichaelscott.com

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Southern California, so I have lived here my whole life. I am not a fan of the “touristy spots” and avoid them like the plague. Usually when friends or family come into town, I will take them to those places if that is what they want, but I also like to take them to see and do other exciting things like kayaking in the Long Beach canals, or Horseback riding up in Malibu. As for eating, I love food in general…I am a HUGE foodie. My favorite places to eat are Open Sesame (Mediterranean), Marix Tex Mex (Mexican), Bossanova (Brazilian) and C & O’s (Italian food).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well as I mentioned, my mothers accidental death played a huge part in me taking that leap. So I do want to thank her for how supportive she was to me throughout my whole life, and how her support and encouragement even bled into the afterlife. I would also like to thank all of my family and friends for their support as well, but mostly I would like to recognize my husband, Erick. He was truly my biggest supporter in starting my business. He gave me the strength, encouragement and support I needed for that final push. He was helping me gut the store I leased and make it our own, and to this day he still is doing all he can for me when I need it. Thank you Erick!! Words would never be able to express how much I love and appreciate you and all you do for me! XO
