Meet Jason Steinberg | Founder & Director of International Sports and Music Project

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Steinberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, how does your business help the community or world?
We use sports and music to improve the lives of children in vulnerable communities. By creating opportunities for kids to explore their passion for sports and/or music, we can foster moments of joy and a chance to build a positive self-image, amongst many other benefits.

What should our readers know about your business?
ISMP uses sports and music to make the world a happier place. Last year we built one of the only FIFA regulation sized soccer fields in all of Uganda. An infrastructure project such as this has myriad benefits, beyond the obvious ones such as giving kids a chance to explore their passion whilst staying physically and mentally fit. It also creates opportunities for economic growth in the village where we work. Advertisers can pay to have their name on the side of the field. Students and their families will come to play or watch soccer matches. Each of these factors brings economic growth and sustainable impact that will be built to last long after these current students graduate from high school and new students take their place.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our organization is headquartered in Brooklyn, which is a mecca for both sports and music. COVID changes everything, but in a normal day, we could go play pick-up basketball at the park, catch a game at Barclay’s center, and go see a concert at our favorite hometown venue, Brooklyn Bowl.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone who supports the International Sports and Music Project, from our Core Team that handles day-to-day operations to our partners, teachers, and coaches in our programs around the world to all of our supporters and donors…ISMP is very much the result of hundreds of like-minded people coming together over a shared passion and a shared cause.
