Meet Jaszmin Kuhner: Director/Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaszmin Kuhner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaszmin, what do you want your legacy to be?
My legacy will be how Jaszmin K. Productions helped change mass media in a positive way. Focusing on promoting positive messages and allow creators of all kinds to have a voice. I want people to know that I didn’t have a blueprint on how to figure out creating success for myself, I just went for it and continue to learn everyday. I studied media production in high school, then graduated from college with a broadcast media degree, received an internship with Judge Mathis in Chicago, moved to California to work in the industry, then started my own production company and now I am pursing an acting career and growing more in my field each day. The journey is not always easy but if you are passionate about your art you will continue to find a way for things to work out for you. You have to believe in yourself and know that dreams do come true, so be patient. I also have a wonderful daughter Cari and my legacy will consist of being an incredible mother. I love being a mother! If we raise our kids with love, knowledge, and give them a voice they will be also positively change the world for the better. It’s about coming together in unity and doing what we love so we can live happy, prosperous lives.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very diverse. I do photography, videography, acting, directing, editing and TV production. What sets me apart for other productions is the inclusion, freedom, and comfort that is offered on set. I like everyone to have fun and have a voice within our productions. I got to where I am today by knowing what my passions are in life. I love creating in front of the camera and behind, so I followed the route that I believed worked best for me. I went to college at Purdue to learning more about tv/film. Then, I moved to the mecca of media, Los Angeles. In LA I was able to put my skills to the test and learn so much more about the industry. I am very proud of the major TV shows I have work for including Judge Mathis, America’s Got Talent, Nickelodeon’s Double Dare, MasterChef, RuPaul’s Drag Race, game shows and more! I’ve learned so much from being on these sets and what it takes to run a television show. I’m also a parent, so it isn’t always easy balancing time between my child and my career. I do the best I can to make sure that both get the attention that is needed. I even bring my daughter to sets so she can learn and see the passion that goes into the work. She loves it! I want the world to know that I am a woman who grew up in Gary, Indiana where life isn’t always easy but with good faith and determination I set out to make my life better. I never give up and I believe that anyone can make their dreams a reality just never stop believing in yourself. It’s going to get hard and people are going to doubt you but don’t let that stop you. Like Dory says in finding Nemo, “just keep swimming!”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To show my friends the best time ever in LA I will take them to some of my favorite places! We will visit the ocean, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, The Broad Museum, Hollywood Boulevard, hike in the mountains, go to the parks, Disneyland, Magic Mountain, LA Arts District for photo shoots, Chinatown, and more! LA county has the most fun things to do. I’m a vegan so I know a lot of great restaurants that I would take them too and they won’t even miss the meats. Restaurants like Sage Vegan Bistro, Gracias Madre, Tocaya, Big Daddy’s Pizza in Venice, Veggie Grill, Mama’s Shelter, Yummy Cupcakes, Nic’s on Beverly, and more!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my loving family for being supportive of me pursing my dreams in the tv/film industry. I have to thank God. None of this would be possible without my faith. I also have an amazing network of friends who are very supportive, I am forever grateful for them! My younger sister Indyia is also a big light in my life. She’s my biggest cheerleader and I can always count on her for support and love! I also want to shoutout Kids In The Spotlight organization. They work with foster youth in filmmaking and I was introduced to work with them by a wonderful woman name Sonya. Being able to share my craft with the youth is very fulfilling!
