We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaymes Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaymes, why did you pursue a creative career?
Why? Well I really don’t know the exact answer to that question but if I think about it , as a child I always was fascinated by performers . I use to watch ” The God father of soul” , James Brown perform and even at the youth age of 8 years I would try and imitate his performance . And as most Afro American artist I also began performing in the Church kids choir . It was my highlight every Sunday. I think over the years I forgotten what it felt like performing until High school where a wonderful teacher Mrs Daniel discovered a glimpse of talent in me. Of course throughout the years my vision got distracted and life obstacles delayed my career . I often made wrong decisions and often stumbled . There were times I wanted to give up and through it all away but somehow the thought of failure prevented me from quitting .

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
A little trivia , I started years ago as a stand -up comedian , playing the circuit like the Comedy store . I did that for a few months and to be honest , being on the road all the time , just wasn’t for me. So I used what I learned from the military and got into the stunt part of the business. I was a stunt man / Stunt coord / military advisors on many films . I actually probably never would have ended up acting until 14 September 2000 I was badly injured durning a stunt . I was hospitalised for several months and underwent over 16 Operations . During that time so people in the film industry heard about what happened and their response was so warm and loving . After I left the Hospital I thought my career was over and then Berd Eichinger told me to act . I was fortune enough to have stood before the camera for Directors like ;

Oliver Stone, Roman Polanski , Steven Spielberg ; Zach Cregger ; Paul Anderson , Rainer Matsutani and many others . My career is over 20 years and the film list ranges from . Resident Evil , Big Game , Cloud Atlas, Snowden , Ghost Writer ,
Series credits ; NCIS , Southland ; Spides , Missing

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

There are many lakes around and surfing …. yes surfing in the ice Bach which is park of the English Garden . I also would visit Italy and enjoy the great food and wonderful hospitality . In L.A which is my stomping grounds . Of course Santa Monica beach . we could bike along the coast line . Stop for tacos at Danny Trejo’s tacos . Then Griffin park and dinner at Amici’s in Brentwood

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow this list of influential people who helped me throughout my career is pretty long but foremost I would like to mention a few who are very dear to me. I must begin by thanking my High School teacher ” Mrs D” Billie Daniels, Redlands High school, Southern California . She saw something in me , I didn’t see in myself and she literally pushed onto the stage, I will be forever grateful . Honestly don’t know where I would be now if it wasn’t for her amazing love she show to me and all her students. . Of course there are many others who have help me along the way. Dr Evelyn Zilch , Director Oliver Stone ; Roman Polanski, producer Bern Eichinger , Director and good friend Rainer Matsutani , all of these people believed in me and helped me along the way.

My first big job was Resident Evil, Directed by Paul Anderson . He believe in me and gave me my first big International break . I also would like to thanks Zach Cregger the director of Barbarian . He casted me for the role of Andre’ and that experience put my acting career to the next level
