We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayson Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayson, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Honestly the best decision was to take my passion and run with it. Full time. No excuses. I was originally working a “normal” job during the week and trying to make the creative side a hobby for the weekends, that plan will never work! It wasn’t until I was put in a position where I needed to leave my day job that I decided to go hard on the JAYSNBRWN and Dough Related brands, and started to see true achievements roll in and milestones start ticking off.

What should our readers know about your business?
You can think of Dough Related as an all encompassing collective taking on various projects within the music and entertainment space. We do everything from managing artists, creating brands, tackling PR, to running our own events and working with other teams to facilitate theirs. As an only child coming from humble beginnings, I think I’ve learnt the art of learning how to do things yourself and applied that to the company. We have a solid team and everyone has the same mindset. Do cool shit in the best way possible.

We’re looking forward to releasing our first big music project this year, an EP for our artist REGI FLIH. We are currently filming some content for that in Toronto so it’s almost ready to see the world, very excited about that. Plus working with expanding our existing brands across states. The big goal for this year is to sign another artist, so currently on our A&R grind looking for new talent.

I also am an international DJ under the stylised version of my name, JAYSNBRWN. I’ve performed all over the globe and have supported the likes of French Montana, Bruno Mars, G-Unit and after parties for Kendrick Lamar, Amine, Kehlani and more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If one of my friends from back home in Australia are visiting, I mean you gotta hit all the staple LA experiences. Venice Beach, Universal Studios, little trip down San Diego/jump the border for some street tacos in TJ. Hike up Runyon. And then stack them up with lots of American favourites; Roscoe’s, Howlin’ Ray’s, In & Out, and of course Taco Bell. Best believe we pull up to the homie Jermaine’s Bachi Bus! But at night that’s when we party; PH Day Club, Poppy, Lock & Key, APt503, Playhouse – some of my favourite places to party.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although he don’t know it and will probably never see this, my shoutout goes to my guy Ash Maz. He was the first one to put me on and give me my first proper nightlife gig as JAYSNBRWN (although he probably doesn’t know that either haha). It was for a party crew called Honeycutt in my hometown and ended up becoming my first residency. So shoutout Ash and shoutout Honeycutt. Bless!
