We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Laing and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
In the Wellness industry you can really think about 2 dramatically different worlds. One that is tied up in the Health insurance world….wellness being one small snippet that really isn’t proactive or promoted much, and then the online world that is a very dangerous place for the average person due to scammers and snake oil ruining it for the really valuable people and advice that is out there. So we think there is an enormous opportunity in the middle – to deliver evidence based ways to improve our lives and be accessible to all. The majority of Healthcare dollars spent are associated with chronic illness – and even during the COVID pandemic, it has been exposed that the #1 problem that America has had is that we are truly a metabolically unhealthy nation. Our goal at Prodhealth is to relieve this enormously inefficient system of the very powers that overwhelm it, by taking chronic illness off of the hospital table and solving it at the kitchen table. If we do that successfully then we provide financial relief, health relief, productivity relief, mental relief, environmental relief, social relief….its all interconnected. So our core goal and our revenue model is helping people get happier and healthier by way of lifestyle medicine instead of a life filled with medications and doctor appts. So – if we impact small lifestyle changes and how we consume food in order to improve one’s health….that is really just that start and that’s what people are unaware of. That’s what we want to open their eyes up to. We can put together a plan for you and give you a tool and provide a support team, and we will adjust what you eat and how you move and how you deal with stress, and you will feel better and you will look better and be happier and more financially independent etc etc. By just by changing what’s on your plate, we also look at the enormously impactful change to one’s environmental footprint. While much of the world worries about EV cars and oil and gas pipelines, we have the unique ability to make daily changes that are even more impactful for our future here, by changing what’s on our plates today…….people are unaware of that. We are collecting the data to show them.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have always been driven by the entrepreneurial itch and have stopped and started several healthy lifestyle related startup companies. Over the past year and a half I have joined forces with my current business partner who came from an entirely different background on Wall Street. He saw the money that was being poured into pharmaceuticals and wasteful healthcare endeavors and decided to pursue a solution to this problem – which is how we found each other. We bring different skills to what is needed in getting ProdHealth up and running and both truly believe that what is on our plates can save our lives and our planets. ProdHealth has pushed our financial and workload limits on almost a daily basis, but our vision will prevail and we think that this solution is hitting at the perfect time, a much needed time in our existence. For the health our own bodies, the health of our planet and the affordability of healthcare for businesses.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my co-founder John comes to the west coast, we 100% will be spending most of the time outdoors! A couple of the mornings we will spend at the Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market, afternoons likely hiking in Los Liones Canyon or East Topanga and during the evenings we would likely spend on the Venice boardwalk in a “business meeting”. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been focused on health since my teen years, and began health coaching at an early age. I took the initiative to move to California to surround myself with more healthy conscious and like minded people and it has really allowed me to grow with support rather than constant resistance. So I would like to give a shoutout to not one specific person, but from my parents to my current circle of friends, who may have called me weird at times, but have always supported me and even joined me on my pursuit of helping people live happier and healthier lives.
