We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmone Shannon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmone, how do you think about risk?
I am a business owner that understands that everyday won’t be a sell out day. I have taken risks where I have prepared for a mass amount of people just to have sold absolutely nothing as well as events where I sell out and people are asking for more and where they can find me.
With this mindset, I am consistently taking on events and marketing Sugar’d even during slow periods. I understand that every interaction is an opportunity to attract new partnerships, or opportunities that I might not have encountered otherwise. Many of this summer’s upcoming events has been booked during times I have had slow events and was able to have personable conversations while serving which resulted in unexpected opportunities that has propelled Sugar’d forward.
What should our readers know about your business?
My favorite quote that I often remind people is “You deserve everything you desire”. Ive come to realize that I have based Sugar’d on that foundation. Sugar’d is all about providing what you desire. From our cotton candy, to our cookies and Poffertjes, Fairy Fresh Made lemonade, and now party favors and cake toppers, everything we make is of the desires of that one person. Everything Sugar’d offers is made to order because we take pride in knowing we catered to that one individuals desires at the very moment they wanted or needed it best.
Right now we are in lemonade season. Which has become my favorite part of Sugar’d. I have often been at events where we are in a sea of other lemonade vendors as well as food trucks that sells their own beverages. As a rookie, that can be discouraging at times. However, I take on the challenge and push through with my head up because what is for me will always be for me. Crazy enough, those are the events I usually sell out because each and every customer has the pleasantries of seeing the process of me cutting, smashing, and adding everything they wanted and realizing Sugar’d does not taste like something you can walk into a store and get. Even though theoretically it is just lemonade, I have been told it’s not just something they can just get anywhere and that is what sets me apart. It was just what they needed at the moment. Sugar’ds motto is “Let’s Make Life Sweeter” and we will always strive to do so.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nashville has become a heavy hitter when it comes to things to do! As a Nashville native, I am often asked about what to do and where to go. Now, Im a foodie that loves a good vibe, but I am not a late night person. No matter the day my number one suggestion is to always see who The Truck Stop has on their line up. It’s a food truck park with so many options so there’s no way we would not find something to indulge in. I often find myself getting something from several vendors at a time. (Don’t judge, I told you Im a foodie)
Another absolute must is visiting Prince’s Hot Chicken South. It’s definitely important to get the taste of REAL Nashville hot chicken when visiting the city.
Now as far as vibes and great drinks, Love and Exile is my go to. Amazing staff with a beautiful venue will always win my heart. Their brand of Prosecco definitely has a hand in that win as well. After that, walking the pedestrian bridge to appreciate the beauty of the city that has molded me and supports my business to reflect may be the sweetest part.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends will always be the backbone in keeping me motivated. If it was not for them, pushing me out of my comfort zone, I would have passed on events that helps Sugar’d grow. My best friend Ki literally had to give me a pep talk to participate in an elementary school career day that led into me now being a Metro Schools vendor. I also have to shout out any and everyone who’s ever liked or shared any of my many social media post. Some of them have never even purchased from me but show their support by getting the word out about Sugar’d. I always tell people, if you want to support a business but don’t know how: liking, sharing, and commenting costs nothing but means everything to small business owners. And for that I am one grateful Sugar Fairy.
This is only my second season doing public vending but I absolutely have to shout out some of my fellow entrepreneurs that have pushed me and motivated me to keep going and growing.
The Truck Stop has been absolutely influential and supportive of Sugar’d in its rookie season. It takes a lot for a business to transition from just being order based to publicly serving. Even though The Truck Stop is well on its way in becoming a staple lot for food truck vending. They have allowed my little lemonade tent come out and share a space event well known trucks such as Cussin & Cookin’, Birria Babe, and Down In The Bayou. Even those trucks constantly support me by sending me new vending opportunities and even adjusting their menu to allow me to serve their customers beverages because they know that’s what I specialize in! I am forever grateful for those who pour into me while I am striving to grow.
