We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazz Singsanong and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazz, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started the business with my late brother, Tui and it was to share my passion in cooking with him. As our business grew and flourished, the idea of passing it down to our children became even more profound. I wanted them to experience the same joy and fulfilment that Tui and I had felt while cooking together. I yearned for them to take pride in their culinary heritage and carry forward the traditions we had started.
Now, as I look ahead, my heart swells with hope and anticipation. I can see a bright future for our business, one where it will continue to touch the lives of many, just as it has touched mine. I feel blessed to have been a part of this culinary adventure with my late brother, and I know that his spirit lives on in every dish we serve.
Our business is not just a place to enjoy good food; it is a celebration of love, passion, and family. And as long as there are taste buds to tantalise and hearts to warm, I am determined to keep this legacy alive, so that one day, my children and their children can proudly share our passion for cooking with the world.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business being a small, family-owned business cooks each meal with love. What sets us apart is that these dishes on our menu are Tui’s legacy. He has added a part of himself to these dishes. That’s what makes us unique from the others. We have overcome so many challenges and we still are coping for our loss. We are where we are because of Tui and our team’s collaborative effort. Everyone has given a part of themselves to keep the restaurant going especially during pandemic. We learned that every challenge has made us even stronger and closer. Back in the day, it was hard to find Thai food that we grew up eating here in L.A or anywhere in the US. With Jitlada, being able to enjoy our comfort food is a cherry on top. The best dream-come-true is being able to share that to the world, taking our customers back to our hometown in Nakorn Sri tammarat with every bite.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Los Angeles for a week, I’d make sure they have the time of their life! Here’s a fun-filled itinerary to show them the best that LA has to offer:
Day 1 – Arrival and Beach Vibes:
Welcome them with a beach day at Santa Monica Beach. We’ll soak up the sun, stroll along the iconic Santa Monica Pier. For dinner, we’ll head to a trendy beachfront restaurant to indulge in some delicious seafood while watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.
Day 2 – Exploring Los Angeles:
We’ll start the day with a visit to the Griffith Observatory for panoramic views of the city and the Hollywood Sign. Also exploring the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lunch at Jitlada, of course.
Day 3 – Disneyland
We’ll explore Disneyland!
In the evening, we’ll splurge on dinner at one of my close friend’s restaurants.
Day 4 – Shopping
Today, we’ll explore the Glendale Galleria and Americana a beautiful indoor and outdoor mall with nice views and eateries
Day 5 – Day Trip to Malibu:
It’s time to escape the city and head to Malibu! We’ll drive along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway and stop at Zuma Beach for some pictures and relaxation.
Day 6 – Thrilling Adventure:
We’ll spend the day at Universal Studios Hollywood, enjoying thrilling rides and experiencing movie magic.
Day 7 – Farewell and Last-Minute Shopping:
On the final day, we’ll do some last-minute souvenir shopping at The Grove, an outdoor shopping and entertainment complex.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
After losing my brother, it was hard for all of us, especially my niece, Sugar. She has filled her late father’s shoes to the best of her ability. She has dedicated her time learning the ropes around managing the restaurant with me. She has become my partner, my confidant and she continues to surprise me on what she has become and I am excited to see what the future holds for her. I know Tui will be proud of her. Sugar manages the other aspects of the business aside from being a chef. Her leadership and her compassionate heart has brought our business to another level which I am excited to see her grow and take on the business.
