We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeniffer Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeniffer, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Every time I think of the feeling I get from watching a great movie or an amazing performance for the first time, I remember when I was little and I would watch my favorite movie, Brave Heart, over and over again, as if it were the first time, because every time I was amazed by something new or just something that really reached me. Brave heart reached my heart. That’s what my goal is, I want to reach people’s hearts and make them experience the same movie for the first time, hundreds of times. Professionally I want to stay true to myself, it’s really easy to lose yourself into things or people, but I want to keep in mind why I started doing what I’m doing, that way your work is honest and you still have fun.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an actress that is still growing, it has definitely not being easy, this career is full of rejection and when you are still finding your way, there’s a lot of up and downs but what I’ve learn is that despite all the rejection, this is a process and you got to love the process. I’ve learn that whatever I’m doing, I’m doing it for myself and that everything is an opportunity to improve yourself, no matter how hard that can be. I think the best way to overcome any challenge is believing in yourself and keep working, because if things don’t go your way, you know that at least you’ve been working and doing anything in your power to succeed. Eventually things will go your way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love late night drives. There was a time when my sister and I would go watch a movie every night and to get the place, we had to do a little drive. The grove, during christmas season at night, is one of my favorite places, it just has something magical to it and if you eat a sprinkles vanilla cupcake, it just gets better. There is also this small movie theater I used to go to all the time on Sunset Blvd, because there is only one room and they have only independent movies, it’s really close to Arclight Hollywood, which is also one of my favorite places in Los Angeles. Lake Hollywood park is great, there’s a trail you can walk all the way to the Hollywood reservoir, it’s a really nice place to think and escape. For food, Two boots in Echo Park is amazing or if you want some Al pastor tacos, there’s a food-truck on Vine and Santa Monica Blvd, best tacos ever. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a lot of people who deserve credit, but my sister Mariana Flores and Jake Sidney Cohen, definitely take most of it. My sister is the most hard working person I know, she is a fighter and always gets what she wants, plus she is an amazing actress and strong woman. My friend Jake Sidney Cohen is the person who made me realize the type of actress I want to be, He showed me that you have to be ambitious, you have to have the drive and the need to succeed. He really is the most passionate person I know. But out of all these great things they have thought me, the one thing I keep in mind is that, you got to believe in yourself first before anyone else does.
