We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenn Barazon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenn, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Becoming a new mom, working from home full time, and running a full time business has made me realize the importance of balance. I strive for work life balance, but the reality is, there’s only so much hours in a day to be mom, wife, creator, employee, friend, and more. In the past year, especially during the pandemic, my outlook on balance has changed over time from being fast paced and non-stop to taking the time to pause, rest, and take care of my mental health. For me, balance does not mean giving equal time to each thing in my life, but to slow down, fill my time with what truly matters, and take care of myself. This type of balance equates to me being more happy, more creative, more present, and most of all more inspired.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My passion for charcuterie boards started after the lockdown around May 2020. I began making charcuterie boards for my husband. I enjoyed creating charcuterie boards so much that I decided to create Shareable Boards, posted my first Instagram post in September 2020, and sold my first Shareable Board in October 2020. Shareable Boards was born out of quarantine.
I love cheese and the irony is that I’m lactose intolerant. Never in a million years did I think I was going to make charcuterie a business. I currently have a full time job, but decided to take the leap on Shareable Boards, and the rest is history.
I put a lot of thought and love into each Shareable Board. Even if I use the same ingredients, it depends on my mood, the day, what music am I listening to, and if I’m feeling inspired. Each Shareable Board is truly unique.
Which started out as a creative outlet and is a therapeutic process for me, I didn’t realize I had it in me to create until I put it on the board, literally. With no background in this art form and truly seeing what I liked by exploring and creating, I found something I was truly passionate about. This discovery has taught me to believe in myself and trust my craft.
As I create each Shareable Board, I want each customer to feel and remember, it’s those moments you’re laughing with your friends, drinking wine, and sharing stories at the center of each Shareable Board.
Eat Goodness. Cherish Moments. Share Experiences.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend’s Los Angeles itinerary would consist of the following:
Day 1 – grab a variety of bites at the Glendora Public Market. Especially must haves are Belly Bombz, Dog Haus, and Boba Break Tea House.
Day 2 – be active, take in nature, and hike Chantry Flats Trail.
Day 3 – go into the city (DTLA), have lunch at the Grand Central Market. Especially must haves are EggSlut, DTLA Cheese and Kitchen, and McConnell’s Ice Cream. After, get some drinks on the rooftop of Perch. End the day with an amazing dinner at Bestia.
Day 4 – make it a beach and site seeing day at Venice.
Day 5 – create a Shareable Board and have a picnic at a local park.
Day 6 – head over to the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market. Shop and pick up fresh produce, cheese, etc. Walk around Santa Monica area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to all the customers that support Shareable Boards. Thank you for believing in my craft and giving me the opportunity to create and share my love for charcuterie.
