We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a professional medical sales rep, I’ve always been on the road and super busy. In my last job, I was a medical device rep and it was so much fun. I was in the operating room, organizing patient outreach programs, educational events for physicians and numerous marketing events. I worked my job 60-80 hours a week and before I had children, it was fine.

After children, I found that work/ life balance was so important. I needed to be there for my kids, be present with them and provide a healthy and happy environment for them to thrive. So I switched jobs, still as a sales rep, but have ensured that I have a better balance in my life.

In addition, I’ve made time to pursue my passions of acting and modeling on my off time. This leads to a better life balance for my soul. Creativity balances out my corporate life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up, I found that I didn’t have many actors or idols to look up to in the entertainment industry, and to this day, I feel the younger generation doesn’t either. So as a runway model and actor, I’m using my platform to support the AAPI community and giving our community more of a voice. This year, I’m concentrating on as many Asian based projects as my schedule will allow.

Earlier this year, I walked in a fashion show from a Cambodian designer and slated to walk for a few more Asian based shows. There are projects and events based around the AAPI community that I will be working with and supporting later this year.

But by doing different exclusive shows, such as the Teatro Spring Fling fashion show at the Sky Bar in Hollywood, this allows exposure for me and other opportunities have emerged. Thank you so much to Berry Bly of Berry Bly Productions for having me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend is my brother and lives in Toronto. He comes to LA all the time fir business but I would like to make an ‘LA Experience’ for him. I would have so much on the itinerary!!

First up, hitting the beaches. I would take him to Malibu, my favorite is Zuma Beach. We would have a lazy day of taking in the sun and having a meal on the beach. There are so many fun places in LA that we can go to such as Rodeo (hopefully we can spot a celebrity). I might even take one of those celebrity buses trips with him because, why not?? There’s also the Griffith Observatory, Getty Museum. You get it. For food, oh man, where do I start? One place for sure is Nobu Malibu, since we’re going to be there anyway 🙂 At night, hopefully he can come to one of my runways on day but we would definitely hit up one of the many events happening in LA.

Of course, I would love for him to meet my friends. I’ve made a lot of good friendships in LA and each person in my circle is important to me. The experience would be a whirwind for sure and never a dull moment.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was born and raised in Asia, moved to Canada before settling in Los Angeles. Growing up in Canada, I saw how tirelessly my father worked to give us, his children, a better life.

At first, he worked a corporate job but realized working for someone else wasn’t his cup of tea. So he started a company of his own. I watched him strategize, bringing friends into the fold and getting funds together. He’s always believed in working with the community and leveling each other up. I have taken that and used that as my life motto as well. We can all help each other to thrive.
