We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was and is to create a space where you feel like you belong. Create a space where you are uplifted and not put down. Create a space where you are free to be vulnerable and at the same time, you are encouraged to get through whatever obstacle that is hindering you from moving forward. I feel when God gave me this gift and purpose he also gave me a plan. The plan is not to be a savior. The plan is to be the person who uplifts and encourage others. I want people to understand and know without a shadow of a doubt, that there is a light at the end of EVERY tunnel you just have to keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well many know that I have been employed at a hospital for the past 15 years. Yep, I still work a 9-5 job while running a small business. Is it difficult? YES. I would love to spend the majority of my time running my business. However, at this time I make it work!! I know and believe in due time the season will come where I will be able to part ways from my 9-5 and dedicate 100% of my time to my business. I also know and believe the late nights, early mornings and ideas that run through my mind in the “middle of the night ideas” will pay off.
You know, I am so excited about the growth of Spinnstrong. I am excited about the doors that are going to open for us! I believe that these open doors will help create more job opportunities for others! My spinnTEAM knows that I LOVE to give and provide support. With that, if the growth of Spinnstrong can help someone support their family, bring on the open doors!!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, my best friends know I LOVE to have a good time. My best friends also know I am 40 years old and have two little ones. My turn-up is not as it used to be (lol). I now have a completely new meaning of turn-up, which includes relaxation (lol). I am a brunch kind of girl so we would definitely start the day off with live music + brunch with endless mimosas! Being that our brunch date will go on for several hours, because you know the girls have to catch up on the tea, a nap will follow right behind this brunch! No, the day is not over just yet! We would then head out to the beautiful city of Long Beach, CA and enjoy the sun. I just love downtown Long Beach. It is beautiful, fun and relaxing at the same time. After a good tan and of course drinks, we would take a nice stroll down Pine Street to have more drinks and comfort food! I’m sure you would agree that comfort food and drinks are a great combination! Where is the Uber driver because we have had enough (lol).

Point proven, as you can see here the turn-up is not the 21 y/o turn-up (lol) bring on the bed + blanket + Netflix it is time to call it a night. Oh! By the way, it is about 9pm (lol)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a couple of people that I want to dedicate this shout out to. The first one would be one of my number one supporters, Rakeina Cooper at RMC Creations. She believed in me from the very beginning (8 yrs. ago) when I did not believe in myself. Rakeina is the head of Spinnstrong’s marketing. I am not a media/ marketing person as that is not a part of my calling (lol) so I leave that up to her. Not only does she handle ALL of the media/ marketing but she also encourages me to keep going and to say NO. Even though I encourage and uplift others through fitness, I need someone to encourage me and help me to be okay with saying NO to things that I am not able to commit to and I love her for that!
Another person is Nicole Moore from FlowRyde in Los Alamitos, CA. Nicole and I met through social media. I believe I reached out to her through Instagram asking a couple of questions regarding the business. Since then we kept in contact with each other. One day Nicole sent me a dm and wanted to talk over the phone and I of course said, yes! She simply wanted to encourage me. It was during a time I really wanted to give up. I felt discouraged about my business and I wanted to take a break. She said NO. She encouraged me and said, “We need you”. That particular conversation we had really stayed with me. During that time when I was down and wanted to throw in the towel another FEMALE business owner, who owns the same type of business I own, calls me and tells me that “We need you”. It was truly genuine and heartfelt. I was uplifted then and still encouraged to keep going! THANK YOU, Nicole.

Last, but never least is my family, friends and “village”. They are my ROCK! I honestly can’t even leave my house early in the morning or evening to teach a class without them stepping in and stepping up to help me. I love them with everything that I have!
