We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think that taking risks is fundamental. In my career making music taking risks kind of comes with the territory. As a producer, not every song or artist that you work with is going to be successful. In general I find myself kind of straying away from whats going on in the current musical climate and following my own ear and what I want to hear. I tend to trust my gut and gravitate towards artists and sounds that speak to me. That thought process / way of going about my life has not always been the easiest but has definitely paid off and is rewarding when you watch something that you developed and believed in start to take traction. Experiencing this has reassured me to trust my gut, in regards to who I am working with and what I’m working on. I suppose the risk there is that theres no guidebook of what is going to be successful, so you really just have to trust your gut and hope that the music connects to the fans and listeners the way it connects to you.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love making music. I am usually jumping between working on all different kinds of music to stay inspired. I got to where I am today from just continuing to do it! I think a lot of being successful in anything is just not giving up no matter the circumstances, so if you really want it, keep going. There have been times that have been easier and times that have been harder. Usually there’s more to learn from the harder times, but I try to learn something from everything. Something thats very important to me is that I want to constantly be growing as an artist / person, and thats what keeps me inspired to keep going a lot of times. Staying stagnant in any aspect of life for me is kind of scary, whenever I find myself stagnant I am generally artistically uninspired – so i’m always trying to switch it up and work with new artists and writers to stay inspired.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
oh man! As far as food goes I gotta say either Crossroads or Pizzeria Mozza. As a vegan there’s definitely more options at crossroads but those have to be my two favorite spots to eat in the city. Maybe Guisados too. I love food so the first thing that comes to mind is restaurants. I also love hiking / exercising so would prob hit some cool hiking spots like Griffith Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been working on a bunch of music with my buddy Harry! We started a production duo called “sharks!”. There are a handful of different artists that we have been working with that will all be releasing music this year – which we are both very excited about! our IG is @eatpresharks if you want to go follow whats going on over there 🙂
