Meet Jes Marie: Musical Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jes Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jes, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been obsessed with singing. When I was in Kindergarten, I was always humming and singing out loud in class, and the teacher told my mother I had a nice voice and that I should try taking singing lessons. I started taking lessons right then, when I was about 5 years old, and then my love for singing only grew. When I got older I started writing songs, which has been an amazing creative outlet for me. I love the experience of songwriting and writing down my thoughts, feelings, and what I take in from the world around me. Sharing that with other people feels amazing and it’s incredible when people say that they feel a strong emotion from your song or a performance you did, whether that’s a happy one, like the song makes them want to dance and makes them feel good, or if a song brings them to a more emotional place that they needed to access at that time. I love communicating with people and songs are how I often do that.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love being an artist, making music is my absolute passion and I live to create. Things haven’t always been easy, as when I first came to Los Angeles I had no money, job, and knew almost no one. It was some of the hardest years of my life. But things have gone up every single year. Now I make music for a living full time, have great friends and live in a beautiful place with my husband. When you are going through hard times and struggles, it’s sometimes hard to imagine how things will get better. I have done a lot of work on myself and in all aspects of my life to get to where I am now. I am super grateful for everything I have and thankful to live in such a beautiful world with so much to explore and learn.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends come to Los Angeles, I love showing them around town! LA is such a spread out city and a lot of them don’t know how to get around when the come out here, or where the best spots to visit are, so part of the fun is driving them around and pointing out landmarks. Of course, everyone always wants to see Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood Blvd, and of course, the Hollywood sign – which, you can get to if you try hard enough (shh don’t tell anyone! 🙂 I love eating at Urth Caffe, it has my favorite green tea matcha latte, vegan chili, and sandwiches around. Really fresh, healthy and tasty ingredients. Of course, the sweet potato pie from Urth is a must have if you want a lil splurge 🙂 I especially like the one on Melrose for a nice atmosphere and some people watching. And then, Manhattan Beach is one of my favorite areas to visit as well. I love the clean, pretty beach there, walking along the Strand, and the food down there is great, too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, Joe Sobalo Jr, who is the most supportive hubby anyone could ever hope for. He is always there for me, giving me advice when I need it, help with his time and talents, and of course a shoulder to lean on . He is an actor and a stuntman, and super talented, acting in tons of different roles, falling off buildings, driving, fighting, etc, in tv shows and movies. We created a pop/dance musical duo together called “CHAMIE” and it’s been amazing for us to write music together and record songs. We have a home studio we have been working out of during this pandemic and it’s been an incredible creative journey to go on together during this time. Our music is fun, upbeat and dancey and we hope it can make people feel good, uplift and inspire others.
