We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Atkinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess, what are you inspired by?
Motherhood inspires me. I have always been drawn to nature, love and to human connections. Being in nature with my daughter sparks creativity within.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a fine art photographer. My style is ethereal, sunlight filled images. I place a focus of motherhood, nature and the home. Every session I try to catch those genuine moments between posed shots. My goal is to create not just pretty photos for clients but keepsakes and works of art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
-Start at pleasure point for a walk along the cliffs, watching surfers catch the waves and sipping tea from the Cat and Cloud coffee shop. -Head to Midtown Surf shop to grab some beach gear, watch a board shaping session and then go to Seabright Beach. Relax in the sand, and check out the boats in the harbor. -Grab a Croissant from Kelly’s French Bakery and watch the butterfly migration at Natural Bridges State Park. -Make a pit stop at Dig Gardens for rare house plants; make a DIY terrarium and browse beautifully scented candles.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents created a beautiful environment for me when I was growing up. It wasn’t until I was much older that I realized their sacrifices. When I was little, they sent me out into nature to play, and they gave me materials to create with. They introduced me to art. I can see my childhood experiences in the wild reflected in my photography today. I have my parents to thank for that.
