Meet Jessie Fang | Tattoo & Visual Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessie Fang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is persistence. I think everyone has different standards for success, and it is difficult to define. For me personally, as a tattoo artist, success is persistence in creation. It is not an easy thing to do, and busy work and daily trivialities will affect it. But I have always tried my best to keep time for creation. The result of persistence has turned into career success, and my works have been seen, recognized and chosen by more people. I want to say that no matter what difficulties we face, we can only achieve the success we want if we keep going.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am always curious about things. This is what I am most proud of. I like to try different roles. My major was Fine Arts. During school, my works involved oil painting, sculpture, installation, multimedia, fashion, etc. Now I am a tattoo artist. It is not easy to achieve what I have today in my career. When I have been exposed to many media and styles, it is difficult to determine a direction to focus on. This made me confused in the early days of becoming a tattoo artist. After continuous attempts, I returned to my original intention, based on my cultural background and hobbies, and gradually developed cherry blossom designs and anime works focusing on Asian ink style. I am currently planning to create my own clothing brand combined with my tattoo designs. I want the world to know me and my story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would recommend booking a hotel in Koreatown because there are so many good places to eat and have fun. On the first day, you can hang out here, go to all you can eat Korean BBQ, and then go to karaoke! On the second day, go to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the nearby Petersen Automotive Museum.
On the third day, you can relax at Wi Spa in Koreatown. There offers massage and steam room. On the fourth day, go to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, walking on the most famous street. On the fifth day, I would recommend going to The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. Then go to Sushi Enya in Old-town Pasadena for dinner. On the sixth day, you can relax at Laguna Beach. On the seventh day, go to The Shops at Santa Anita. You can buy some gifts here, and then go to Haidilao Hot Pot for dinner in the mall.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I give my Shoutout to the Fine Art major of ArtCenter College of Design. It has a strong degree of freedom. During my time at school, I can try various creative media and forms. This has brought me a change in my thinking and the ability to think independently. It is very helpful for my current work. In addition, I have to thank my father in particular. He gave me a lot of freedom to grow and respected my choices. With his unconditional support, I can move forward on my own path.
