We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanne Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joanne, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I still meditate daily but this year I began practicing Ho’oponopono. It’s an ancient Hawaiian art and practice of problem solving that helps us achieve greater clarity of purpose while helping us live and work more effectively. A balanced life is the key to success. It’s good for our physical, mental and emotional health, otherwise we become workaholics.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a screenwriter and producer and currently have an all-female comedy feature in development with Buffalo 8 Productions called, Sex, Drugs & Crow’s Feet. It’s a tribute to my generation which is Generation X. The lessons I’ve learned a long the way is don’t forget to live life while pursuing your dreams. Don’t wait until you get that big break. Take that vacation you’ve always wanted to go on, spend time with your family, try something new so that you have fresh experiences. It’s the best way to keep things exciting, otherwise it’s like watching paint dry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live between Los Angeles and Maui. If it was Maui, I would take them to The Spa at The Four Seasons in Wailea for a Hawaiian massage called Lomi Mohala, have dinner at Ko Restaurant at The Fairmont Kea Lani overlooking the pool and ocean, take a trip to Ali’i Kula Lavender farm and The Sacred Garden. See free live entertainment at any of the resort hotels in Wailea or check out Maui Arts & Cultural Center to see which stand-up comedian is in town or band is performing. Also stop by Fleetwood’s On Front Street in Lahaina.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout out to Dr. Michael Klaper who is a vegan physician, speaker and educator. I have been a dedicated vegan since 1994. Dr. Klaper is my absolute go-to for all things vegan.
