We had the good fortune of connecting with Joey Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joey, what do you attribute your success to?
Treating my customers like Family and running my business with my heart 1st has led to the success that we have achieved in less than a year.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Meat Homie was born in March 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. I was doing catering events on the weekends when the markets started experiencing food shortages and families were finding themselves without food. I decided to utilize the resources that I had with my meat vendors and would order enough for friends and family to come and purchase what they needed at prices less than the store to help keep them safe. I started a Facebook group to help communicate with everyone and post the items I would be able to get and within a few weeks there was 90 of us on the page. As things got worse, I quickly discovered how much items were being marked up at the stores and decided that I would sell at lower prices to help others out. I started getting requests if I would allow my group to add their friends and family members so that they can put food on the table as well. I then realized that my plan to help those close to me was quickly becoming something bigger that would allow me to help so many people that needed my help. Within a few weeks, Meat Homie was born and I had commercial Freezers and Refrigerators in the garage stocked with food. While working a full time job, I would take orders at night after work and distribute the orders on Fridays and Saturdays. Word quickly spread about what I was doing and I was filling over 100 orders a week and due to limited space I was filling those slots within 15 minutes.
My Business concept of treating everyone like family and providing high quality food at lower than store prices has led to us opening a store in Pico Rivera and now having over 7,000 local followers and customers on our social media. It has not been a year and I am about to open my second location and am quickly becoming a distributor to Restaurants in Redondo Beach, San Clemente and other So Cal cities. We also provide the freshest Beef with our partnership of a local USDA Certified Angus Beef Plant located down the street from us.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some favorite spots in the city would include Downtown. There are so many hidden gems within walking distance and some great food in the basements of some of the retail buildings. Chinatown is also a great place to walk and explore a different culture. Every city within the area of LA has its own personality with many great places to visit. So it’s definitely hard to just choose a couple. It is easier to say drive, walk and explore and you won’t be disappointed with wherever you choose to go.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My 10 Year old daughter Lily is my inspiration and motivation in life.
