We had the good fortune of connecting with John Gilhooley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what do you attribute your success to?
Being honest with my style and shooting content that relates to how I actually live my life – I’ve found that it shows through in my work when I am actually interested in the subject matter
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started in the mid 1980’s and in my plan was not only to learn the craft of photography but find a way to do the work while enjoying my life. Growing up in Los Angeles I was around the business of photo and film. The early 1990’s were a time of learning and growth for me assisting some of the well known celebrity shooters from New York City After re locating to Orange County I found my niche’ starting with editorial assignments for OC Weekly and others and from that I branched out to the businesses and brands that are a growing part of the community The most inspiring part for me is meeting people that are starting something new and helping them build their brand through the creative process, this in turn keeps my business evolving as well. Growing and learning is what I enjoy the most, adapting to the changes in this business are key
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d stay close to the coast starting in Sand Diego and head north to Morrow Bay sunning surfing and sightseeing all along the way
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The risk takers and the people who live out their dreams and never give up – too many to mention here but if you view my website some of them are on there
