We had the good fortune of connecting with John Imah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Helping others makes me happy. There is a and old saying that goes: “If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.” When helping others, we reinforce our view that we can help others, which reinforces a world view that people do help each other.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an executive leader at Snap, where I am the Head of Brand & Games Partnerships. I have been employed at some of the world’s biggest tech companies (e.g., Facebook/Instagram, Snapchat, Amazon/Twitch), where I worked with top brands, agencies, celebrities, and influencers. I’m also a tech advisor for start-ups and many of Hollywood’s A-list celebrities, such as Kevin Hart, Martin Lawrence, The Boondocks’ creator Aaron McGruder, and many more. In prior years, I co-founded two start-up companies that were privately sold.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in LA is Soho House. It’s a membership-only club where the environment is very relaxed and makes excellent conversations and food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout to my mom for believing in me before I believed in myself.
