We had the good fortune of connecting with JohnBorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JohnBorn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking the risk was the determining factor in any success I’ve accumulated. I left my hometown with nothing but a backpack and enough money for one meal. I had to sleep in unthinkable places & starve for days at a time, although without that leap of faith you would not know who JohnBorn is. I’m am the definition of a risk taker,

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began painting at the age of three when my mom introduced me to a local fair in Harrisburg Pennsylvania where I’m originally from. Here I will go on to paint sculptures every year and build a small collection of them throughout my younger years. This turned into a passion for customizing fashion items. I would go on to customize items for my friends and family until I was recognized by a more main stream outlet. The road was a very hard one, and when I say hard I really mean it was tough. I knew that if I outworked others that are similar to me that it was inevitable that I Shine. I mean after all I was Born for this. Early on I got a good buzz going by collaborating with celebrities who I respected. I would send emails, reach out on social media, and do anything I could to get into the rooms these people were in. There is so much more to it behind the scenes but after a long time of dedicating myself things started to turn around for the better. I believe there’s only one way to overcome challenges and that’s by being persistent. Consistency is key when trying to build some thing in my opinion. No matter how much I wanted to quit no matter how much it hurt no matter how much money I didn’t have or sleep I couldn’t get; I never stopped. I want the world to know that this kid from a small town Harrisburg Pennsylvania came from homelessness poverty and one of the most dangerous cities in the world to a nationally known and respected artist and musician now residing in Beverly Hills California. & This is not the end.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well this is a tough question for me because I’m always the friend that wants to stay inside Haha. Although if I had to try to map something out, it’s probably go a little something like this: We would ride through the city first, just listening to good music and feeling the vibes. A lot of our itinerary would consist of me winging it and stumbling upon cool stuff to do. I’d then call my my celebrity friends & see who was available to link or chat to show my people that I’ve been building my network, also to impress them haha. We would definitely eat at my favorite restaurant: “Annie’s Soul Delicious” most of the time. I would make it a point to do a beach day & find a secluded area to relax and appreciate life. & before they go I’d be sure to go art gallery hopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my mother Deborah Ross. Had it not been for her fighting so hard for me throughout my life none of this would be possible. Since I can remember my mother would stop at nothing to make sure that I was great. I can recall a time my mom wrote letters to the president of the United States in order to get my school changed. That woman is my everything, my teacher, & she kept me alive to be able to sit here and tell you the story! I love you mom! 🤍 Aside from that, the genuine people who really care & contributed: you know who you are and you know I am appreciative!! I love you all.
