We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Cheung and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, how do you think about risk?
My understand of risk has grown and deepened since becoming a business owner/entrepreneur. I first understood it as an abstract concept based on the dictionary, basically that there’s a chance something could go wrong.
Then as I became more familiar and experienced different aspects of risk, it began to take shape and I was able to see how it impacted my life. I observed that because we are not perfect and cannot predict or guarantee anything with absolute certainty, risk will always be a part of life. As much as it allows the unknown and unfavorable, it also can bring forth blessings and favorable outcomes. So I thought, better to embrace and learn how to apply it to my advantage than continue to be ignorant.
When I began to make decisions which incorporated risk, I saw better results. As I learn to flow in and out with risk, it reduced my stress and allowed me to better execute. Without it, I would not have grown. So I continue to take a healthy amount of risk, getting more comfortable being uncomfortable, because that is where the treasure is.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d probably start off the day with brunch @ Taps in Corona and watch the football game. Then hit up Top Golf in Ontario for the afternoon and for night hang out at Victoria Gardens.
Mon-Fri would be more activity based, hiking in Sycamore Highlands park or Mt Rubidoux. We’ll also stop by downtown Riverside to check out the foodlab, Misison Inn, and smoke a cigar at the Mission Tobacco Lounge.
One of those nights, we’d trek to the San Bernadino Mountains and camp overnight at the campgrounds. Then morning, take a hike and do some fishing.
When the weekend rolls around, we’d cap it off with a backyard BBQ and firepit with the glass of whiskey.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I like to think of my support structure as concentric circles. So at the inner circle, I’d have to thank YHWH, my wife, son, and business partner for their belief in me and the sacrifices they made to make this possible. Next our many partners/vendors:
