We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Agustin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to choose a career in Acting/ Dancing for one simple reason. It’s fun. I’ve always lead a life where having fun was always important to me and if I didn’t enjoy it I wouldn’t do it. I wanted to live a life I enjoyed personally and I found that love and passion through performing arts so I decided to take the leap and pursue it full time.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I currently pursue dancing and acting. I specialize in hip hop choreography and freestyle but well trained in various styles as well. As for acting, I do lots of commercials and short films as well. I got here through lots of training every day and meeting lots of amazing people along the way who help motivate me to keep going. It definitely was not easy. There’s always obstacles whether it be financially, mentally, physically, etc. I am able to overcome these challenges through the support of others as well as critical thinking in tough situations. I’ve learned along the way that if you give up too early, you guarantee your dreams to never become reality and that putting in the time and effort really will pay off in the future. You must be patient.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going to hikes at Griffith Park so that would definitely be something to do. My favorite spots would be almost any Korean soup place in Koreatown and my favorite boba spot is Sunright Tea Studio in Little Tokyo.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I always credit the start of my journey to my former dance mentor, Jordan Julian. I joined a dance team that was directed by him and he was truly the first one to believe in me and give me a chance to choreograph a piece for the team. That small moment meant so much to me that it was actually through that I ended up pursuing entertainment as a career. Through his mentorship, guidance, and training I decided to follow his work ethic.
