We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Soto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
My most difficult decision that I ever had to make was actually recently. Last summer I had an existential crisis. I was questioning my purpose in life, and kept trying to understand why I was so unhappy, even though I had — what many would say — “the dream job.” I was working as a digital content producer for KGW-TV, the number one local news station in Portland, Oregon. I had also just pitched and launched my very own Instagram pop culture news segment for the station, which was something I always wanted to do. But why was I so unhappy? This went on for about three months. I was also going to therapy during this time, trying to find the answer. I cried many nights, alone in my empty studio that never felt like home. Until I realized — I was attached to my success. In my mind, I went to school to get this “big boy job” and I can’t disappoint anyone. I reached out to my sister, then my parents. The level of support that they gave is indescribable. It was okay for me to not be okay. It was then when I decided to quit my career job and move back to Los Angeles — my home.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work focuses on creating relatable content that reflects my vibrant personality and personal experiences. I am passionate about creating content that is both creative and captivating. My personal social media accounts are an opportunity to showcase my efficiency and productivity for potential clients looking for help with their social media presence.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my ability to blend technical expertise with creative problem-solving. I pride myself on creating relatable and personal content always.
My professional journey has been a series of learning experiences and growth. It has been a challenging but rewarding path. It was not easy; I faced challenges such as navigating a competitive industry and dealing with imposter syndrome.
I overcame these challenges through continuous learning and adaptability. The support of my parents and that of a strong professional network and mentors also played a huge role in overcoming some of these challenges. Each obstacle taught me the importance to continue to be myself always and the value of persistence and hard work.
The most important lessons I’ve learned are the necessity of staying true to one’s values. I’ve learned that success is not just about achieving goals, but about the journey and the growth that comes with it.
I want the world to know that my work is driven by a passion for innovation and excellence. My personal brand stands for happiness, integrity and self-love. My story is one of turning challenges and past experiences into opportunities .
I am thrilled and thankful to be able to share my story. I hope my work can inspire and make a positive impact on others.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I’d take them to most of my favorite places. A trip to my hometown is a must. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, so showing them around that area would be number one. I’d take them to grab snacks at El Mercadito and then head to Mariachi Plaza to catch a vibe. I’d take them to the line up of food trucks along Whittier Boulevard in front of the Commerce Center to eat delicious Mexican food and seafood. Visits to museums are a must: LACMA and The Broad, just to name a few. Evening visit to the Griffith Observatory to see the city of stars. A day a trip to The Grove and farmers market just to say we did it. Maybe even catch a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. A lunch date at Urth Cafe, my favorite. And lastly, a trip to Disneyland to visit Mickey Mouse of course!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to all thirty something millennials who are struggling at this time. I see you, I feel you, we are going to be okay. Don’t just trust the process, but enjoy it too. xx
