We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Cann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote that I have for myself is, “Surrender to Your Passion”. As easy as it sounds it is not the easiest thing to do. Passion doesn’t exactly put loads of money in your pocket…. At first. Your passion may not even make money, but your passion will lead you to some of your life’s purpose and give your some type of fulfillment in this world that is constantly applying pressure to your existence. Your passion can introduce you to wonderful and new relationships. Your passion can help other people find themselves and their passion as well. Your passion can set you aside from the pack. What are you good at? What comes to you naturally? What harmless activity brings you inner joy? That is your passion. That is what you must seek. That is what you must live out.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always had two dreams as a child: To become a successful dancer and to become an action star! From my pre-teen days to present time I spent 20 years of my life building my dance career and looking back I made that dream come true so naturally it was time to conquer new and bigger territory. While I was making landmarks in my dance career I was always on the side fine tuning my martial arts and acrobatic abilities. I also found out that my tech savvy genes were kicking in high gear. I used those genes to produce films that I could use my martial arts and acting abilities especially since I am often overlooked, underrated or not top pick for an action movie along the lines of Marvel to showcase my talent. So I found myself becoming an indie filmmaker to create opportunities. When it came to production it wasn’t hard for me to navigate the technical side of filmmaking in regards to film editing, writing and directing. I found a way to tie everything together. I had a lot of success as a film editor for many tv shows, movies and major music videos. I NEVER saw that coming. It just happened. Personally, I hope to one day be amongst the ranks of martial arts/action stars like Wesley Snipes, Tony Jaa, Jackie Chan, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White and the rest of those guys, but also a very respected filmmaker. The journey continues and there are many days that I want to get off this train, but deep down I know there is nothing else that fulfills me outside of the work that I do now. My mom and dad are proud of me and all that I have accomplished, my work has afforded me a blessed lifestyle and allowed me to travel the world, work with many notable figures and to this day teaches me patience and perseverance. But I am still not quite proud of myself just yet because I know my potential and the higher levels I am capable of reaching. This state of mind has caused me high – functioning anxiety, but this anxiety also fuels me. It’s like a gift and a curse. But I know eventually it will simmer down. So until that day comes I will continue to work and wait for that moment when I can look myself in the mirror and say, “Jordan, you made it. You really did it!”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, unfortunately due to the current state of the world we are limited to the places we can go, but I would find a way to show them a good time. So I would definitely have to take them to the beach, some of the beautiful canyons that we have here and you can’t show them Cali without all the cool tourist attractions like Hollywood and some of the restaurants Cali is known for like In-N-Out, Fatbruger and Roscoes! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a special shout to my mother and father for ALWAYS supporting everything that I put my heart to. I like to give a lovely shoutout to my sister, Sequoiya Cann for being my BIGGEST fan since my existence. Always loving me and desiring the best for me. I’d also like to give a special shoutout to my marital arts and acting mentors for inspiring me and lastly I’d like to give a shoutout to my business partner, Aaron Patrick of J&S Film Productions who’s helped me build a library of great work that we are continuing to build.
