We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Curls and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The way I see it, we all have the choice to embody the creation in which we live. That said, the career I chase was never going to be the death of my creativity. Ironically, the symphonic sounds and visions that propelled my imagination as a child manifests a good lot of the life I live now. The unfortunate thing is that most of us aren’t granted that precious freedom which is self expression or empowerment, I think maybe that’s what inspires the unstifled to push even more limits and break greater boundaries. I know for myself the creation that drives my music, art, dance, fashion, writing & literature, and even nature literally keeps me going lol. That is what I see as the heartbeat to my life. So simply put, I pursue living in creation (or a creative career) because life teaches me to live the way I imagined. If that makes any sense lol

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am still in the works of my debut project which is hard work for sure primarily because I do the process by myself. But the authenticity and experimentation I bring as an artist is maybe what others would think sets me apart. Though I will admit I am now in a place of just looking to tell my story versus stand out. I believe in my sound and in the truth that the cream will float. This journey is no easy one but surely the most gratifying ones aren’t. What I want the world to know about my story is that it will exceed groundings.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to take them to the gems, which is a LITTLE added pressure considering LA has so many. I think I would just include some of the best and weirdest spots I know. Like food wise Grilled Fraiche is the absolute bomb, or Koreatown has some amazing ramen/ k-bbq. We could hit sattle ranch for some drinks so we could watch each other fall off the mechanical bull with s’mores, or hit the best sushi spots down the street on Sunset. Roller skating through Venice, hiking to Murphy’s ranch or to the Sunken beach. Customizing some jewelry for memories at the swap meet or thrifting on Melrose/Fashion district. I also would suggest the stand up paddle boarding in the Marina. Or we could hit one of my favorite holistic wellness stores in Lemiert called ‘Nappily Naturals’ to better the energy. I also love the wacky museums in Hollywood or I would suggest one of the manyyy escape rooms LA hosts.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s so many people that literally anyone that has left an impact on my life over the past few years has helped mold me into the artist I am today. I’m grateful to everyone. The good and bad. The family and even strangers.
