We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Kelker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor is believe what you’re doing is worth it and everything will fall into place.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well…I’m currently in a duo called Otomodatchi (which means friend in Japanese) with my friend Ami Ide and we make music strictly that our friends want to hear. We met in Tokyo, Japan around 2015 and eventually formed a group formerly known as CIRRRCLE. After CIRRRCLE’s short but huge success in Japan, I moved to LA to take things to the next level until COVID put a stop to that. After that it was tough because Japan locked down and no foreigners were able to get in for a long time. As a result, I wasn’t able to return and do live shows anymore making it harder to connect with fans in person. Long story short, it was not sustainable and eventually we agreed to disband. After that I toughed it out taking any job I could as a dishwasher in Little Tokyo, Lyft driver, production assistant in TV/Film, photographer, and any other odd jobs I could find. That there was the start of the hardest and saddest part of my life. I’ll leave it a that. Fast forward to now, I’m in a better state of mind and taking steps to be healthy inside and out. That is the biggest lesson I learned. Take care of yourself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Aw man. Where do I start.
I skateboard a lot so I would for sure spend a full day at Venice beach at the skatepark and eventually grab some $5 pizza from PIZZA LOCAL VENICE on Winward Ave till the sunset.
I also love playing TOP GOLF even though I’m not good, its always fun.
Secretly, I go to the nail salon at least once a month because hygiene and self care. So we would do that and grab some Buffalo Wings from Rocco’s Tavern in Culver City.
At some point I would hit a hiking trail near Griffith too and pair that with Philly Cheesesteak from The Heights Deli and Bottle shop.
On the weekends I like Las Vegas seafood buffet in Glendale for their all you can eat crab leg buffet. After that, nap time. There’s no fighting a nap after leaving there. I’ve tried.
And of course In N Out Burger is a must before flying out of LAX.
So yea, Just a lot of food and naps.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my entire production and design team overseas in London and Japan: Ami Ide, Laura Ribeiro, Hyperbeamcat, Zuma, DJ Chocoholic,
In LA I want to shoutout Dab Bowie who’s been an unofficial mentor to me, inspiration, and friend.
