We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordon Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordon, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
My name is Jor’Don and Im from Southfield Michigan! Growing up my father worked for Delta airlines so I’ve flown for free most of my life. Traveling the world at such a young age taught me to never limit myself or box myself into a set place or environment! It showed me that there are so many different walks of life outside of the one we were born into and it’s up to us to decide what works best for us!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been singing most of my life, or at least as far back as I can remember. I recorded my first studio released single in 2017 called “Parallel” available on all streaming platforms. That following year I released my first album “Before Here”. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way definitely include not being so self critical. I can admit that I’ve been in the way of myself when it comes to releasing a lot of my singles and or projects. The bar i have set for myself is very high. I want to thank all of my fans and supporters who have stuck with me since my first single and album. I want to say that the creative journey is not linear or always clear for us as artist but I can assure you all that I will never give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend visiting me in town for a whole week there’s definitely a few things I can’t let them leave before we do! I live in Santa Monica so the pier and Venice beach are a must! There are a couple of spots like 1212 and the whaler that offer great drinks and views of the ocean! Aside from that we would have to stop by The Artist Tree! A local dispensary/ lounge where you are able to not only purchase cannabis but also smoke and order food! Lastly we can’t leave LA without hitting a few museums, the fashion district and melrose fair on Sundays!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Since moving to Los Angeles from Michigan I found myself thousands of miles from home without the support of a group or community like I’m used to. After moving here I got started right away creating a group I called “BLK LA” this group is a collective of young African American 20 somethings who have all relocated here from either MI or some other place in the U.S. I started with about 5 of us and we’re now at 32! I definitely owe it to this group of individuals for helping me not only network, find opportunities as well as build community and home away from home!
