We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseline Mejia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseline, how do you think about risk?
During my childhood growing up I played it safe most of the time, even during my adolescence, can you believe it? yes! even then I never took risks, I didn’t give myself permission to explore and experiment. I would always be terrified of the “consequences'” from doing something out of the norm. The “uncertainty” and the “unknown” always caused fear in me. However, I got to a point in my life that I started questioning my behaviors, beliefs and started a self discovery journey that helped me redefined limiting beliefs and emotions that weren’t letting me grow and get out of my comfort zone. The first time that I tool a risk in my career was not due to my inner work was due to circumstances of burnt out and personal things going on in my life. I knew that I could not continue as a clinical supervisor so I decided to start my own business in private practice called Konnect Counseling Services, that allowed me to continue with my inner work, have more freedom in a sense of time with my family and self care. I was able to verified that risks are not always “bad” or “scary” that everyday when we open our eyes we are taking risks one way or another is just that we are not aware of them. I started noticing the need to help people with their own discovery and redefining their limitations and I took another risk, a leap of faith in creating Stream Konnections, Inc which is a connection center with its own Academy (Stream Konnections Academy) to provide courses for the mind, emotions and expansion. To help people be aware of the risks they take even by not making any decisions. Now when I think of risks, I don’t only think of failure which is a possibility, but I think of all the possibilities of learning from it whether the results I get are the ones that I want or not, it will lead me to experience life with all of its colors and explore all the possibilities of my own potential to create the life that I want and deserve.
What should our readers know about your business?
Currently I have two businesses and eventually the two will become one. The first one as I was sharing before is Konnect Counseling Services which has been designed to provide psychotherapy services to individuals (Children, adolescence and adults), couples and families to assist people improve their quality of life. My specialty is trauma, anxiety, depression and relationships. The second that we recently created is Stream Konnections Inc, which is a bilingual digital platform that has an Academy which contains online educational courses of information that we learn through life experiences. The academy provides tools to help people expand their mind, navigate emotions and expand to their full potential in the different life areas, health, relationships, resources and inner peace. It also provides mentoring and coaching services and other free information for self development. Our goal is to make learning and life easier, simpler and funner to navigate.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were to take my best friend I would take her to have breakfast at “The Toast” in Whittier, we would go hiking to Turnbull canyon definitely take her to eat crepes at “Crepes De Paris” in Brea, we would have some coffee at Civitas Coffee, have some Peruvian food at “Sol Inka”, eat some Poke and Korean BBQ. I would also take her to visit the beautiful parks such as La Mirada Regional Park, The Creek Part and would take her to La Mirada Theatre. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize that whether no one could do the work for me, I didn’t have to do it alone. I want to give a shout out to my family support, my husband, parents and sister along with my best friend that were encouraging me and supporting and loving me throughout the process. I also, read many books such as conversations with God, The power of Now, The red book, and what would do you if you didn’t have fear (In Spanish) and many others. Along with my support network and books, I took online courses, I had my own therapy and coaching. I also continued growing as a professional and got certified in the three levels of Reiki healing and as a HeartMath practitioner by the HeartMath institute.
