We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Pepe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Being in the music industry success comes in all different shapes and sizes, there’s no one proven way to becoming successful which is one of the most exciting things about this industry! However no matter which way you achieve success the one through line between everyone (besides a certain level of talent) is being a likable person and easy to get along with and work alongside. I’ve always just loved people and I genuinely enjoy collaborating creatively and having the company of others. I feel like that is one thing that has gotten me further than anything in my career as a music producer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Phew that’s a big question to answer! haha. I hope what sets me apart from others is just being me, both personality wise and my natural taste for music and blending genres. I have a long way to go but how I got to where am today, producing and creating music full time, was too many long hours to count, hard work dedication and trusting my gut. It sounds cliche but it’s all true. The music industry is never easy and never has been, you have to hear no a lot more than yes. But taking those no’s as one step closer to the next yes is a way to stay sane while going through it! The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is trust your gut and surround yourself with great people.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
WAY too many great food options to count. I am definitely a hobby foodie!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow, too many to count. First off my wife, Jen, is 100 percent my rock. The music industry can be such a roller coaster and she’s alway been there to help me through the tough times, self doubt, and uncertainty of what I do. My family of course have always been huge supporters since I was playing in crappy pop punk bands in high school. And finally all of my many collaborators make the songs that I get to produce (or co-produce) what they are! I’m so lucky to have found such a great family of creatives here in LA.
