We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Vanporppal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was raised my whole life in a small city called Paramount in LA county. I currently now stay in the city of Hawthorne. It all started from taking a video production class in high school when i was 16, fell in love with capturing video and did some video/photo projects with some of my friends. I really was fonded on being behind the camera and catching all the memories and great moments At the same time I had just picked up music and was playing bass guitar with my 1st band. Then down the line I took a breif hiatus from filming/photography not knowing what i wanted for my vision and went toward learning more music. As I played music at many venues or just going to shows to see other local bands performed, At the age of 26 i knew i wanted to hop back on the camrea and capture video/photo content of musicians perfoming there music live.

for about 4 years I been capturing video/photo of other musicians/bands as of now and im learning many other different styles of shooting besides music

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
This path to Videography/Photography has been been difficult since I would like to try to make this as my freelancing part time job to have more time with my clients work I currently work around my Automotive Mechanic Apprenticeship and my band “Lions Amongst Wolves”. I still aim to keep thriving with my work to make this my main job.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Funny thing is, I lived in Los Angeles all my life and I still be the worst tour guide to show you where to eat or enjoy a view haha. Well when Im not busting my butt behind the camera, i like to go to coffee shops to grab some coffee and pasteries or go by the beach in Long Beach or Redondo Beach to grab some beer and food, I would say “Smoking Tiger” in Gardena is a good coffee spot with some really good pasteries, especially if you like Ube or Matcha pasteries. Im a sucker for any matcha food or drinks haha. Besides the beaches for a good veiw, my two favortie places to sight see are “Abalone Cove” and “Signal Hill” for really good scenery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
oh man there so many people I want to give credit to so far for all the support but there are so many haha but first i want to say thanks to my family for support and for pushing me to continue foward my goals. all the muisicians and my other clients for trusting me with there work and enjoying the content I make for them. I thank all my friends that encourage me to keep thriving. all the videographers/potographers i met so far that gave me so many tips and advice. My band memebers that I currently perform music.

Finally I thank my fiance Laura for all the support and the funding for some of my stuff.
